Bathroom faucets - one handle or two?
Comments (5)If the funds are there, have you ever considered a Tapmaster? There will be no drippy faucets :) I've had one in the kitchen for 10 years and one in the master bath for 4.5 years. No batteries, no electricity. Saves water and increases productivity. It's like having three hands. You can find more information from Tapmaster owners in the Kitchen forum. Personally, I prefer an 8" spread and two handles Here is a link that might be useful: Tapmaster...See MoreFinding a Bathroom Faucet
Comments (12)We put a Delta Addison single handle faucet in DH's bathroom. My goal was to minimize mess. Also wanted a high arch and a water stream that went well into the center of the bowl. It started out with a single handle and I decreased the mess even more by installing a Tapmaster. We have them on all the sinks in the house (starting with the kitchen in 2002). It's not electric or battery operated. It's tied into the plumbing underneath the sink. A plate is attached to the toekick. Just gently pressing on the plate with one's toe activates the water. Also, consider installing the faucet at the 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock position so your child can reach it better. This one is installed on an extra tall vanity (husband's bathroom) and my 7 and 9 year old grandbabies don't have a hard time reaching the faucet or usinng the Tapmaster. I like the fact that there is so much room for hands and arms to get under the height of the Addison. And installing it to the side, helps a LOT with the ordeal of trying to clean between the sink and backsplash....See MoreSave this ugly bathroom on a budget!
Comments (10)Hi everyone, thanks for your thoughts. These are really helpful! Major takeaways that I see, are: 1) declutter the counter to clean up the space; 2) use a solid or "cleaner"-patterned fabric curtain and liner; 3) replace the art with a larger piece, and of course keep the space clean. What I'm thinking to address these: 1) I actually have storage behind the mirror, so won't need to build a unit (hurray!) 2) Thinking of using a bold, solid-coloured curtain to act as a focal point. I thought about using light lavender or milder patterns, but the room is so dreary that I feel like it needs a bit of a punch. I really like this curtain since most of the time my curtain stays open so it would look like a solid accent, but if drawn, it at least has an attractive pattern on it. Other options for curtains are this and this. Which one do you guys reckon suits most? 3) I'll try to find a water-colour painting to match, or maybe a large rectangular mirror or clock with a brownish/bronze accent frame to match the taupe counter-top. I'll also keep a potpourri basket on top of the toilet's tank. For the floor, like I said, it's just made of mini white tiles and gets dirty quickly. There's just enough gap under the door for a bath mat so I don't even think I should add a false floor. So I was thinking of covering it with a bath mat. Which colour do you reckon would suit? What colour do you reckon this should be (bear in mind that my cat's litterbox is next to the toilet, so I prefer it to not be too light a colour because it can get dirty with the litter dust quickly). Would grey, or beige be good options, e.g. this one?...See MoreDesigning a kids bathroom that is 6'6'' x 12'0''
Comments (34)We have a toddler and a baby on the way. How long are you planning to be in this house? Are you thinking of it as your "forever home"? If it's even partway to forever : ) , keep in mind that kids grow very quickly. The bathtub stage won't last very long -- what are you planning for a shower? A shower will get much more use in that bathroom over the life of your house. The "we're happy to brush our teeth side by side at two different sinks" stage typically doesn't last long either. Whether you have two girls, two boys, or one of each, they'll prefer to have the bathroom to themselves, and brushing teeth will be just one part of their morning or bedtime routine, very little of which -- beyond brushing teeth -- can be shared. Yes to more counterspace. I have two teenage sons and one early 20s daughter, and it's a toss-up between who has more on the bathroom countertop. What do you have for bathroom storage for toiletries? They have often said especially after visiting friends that they'd rather have more storage than one more sink. I will give a shoutout to Ikea vanities, which are not only reasonably priced, but have integral sinktops which are very easy to clean, and have large capacious drawers. For our two kids' bathrooms, we have this 48" vanity, between two of the co-ordinating high storage mirrored cabinets, which makes the entire area about 70" wide. How much space are you allowing on the wall for the vanity?...See Moresuzanne_sl
