Ways to make a built in tub attractive?

We have a tiny 5X7' bathroom with a tub tucked into one side just fitting into the 5 feet. We have been looking at replacing it with a clawfoot since our house is very vintage and old and period, however it is just sooooo expensive to replumb, buy a new tub with all its new accoutrements and extra tile under and behind it. So in order to keep costs down I'm looking to maybe try to replace the tub with another normal tub and somehow dress it up to be more charming.

Does anyone have an idea for making a tub like this more attractive and vintage?
