I just purchased this dishwasher to replace a very old whirlpool that was the loudest on the planet. hoping to have a silent or near silent DW for a change. However, at the first wash it was less than quiet. Last night while watching TV the DW sounded like my pressure cooker was on. We can hear the DW running in every part of our house. My question is does anyone else have this model # and is it quiet or relatively quiet. It sounds different with each load I do, the more dishes in it the louder it gets.

Should I take exchange it for the SHE68, which is 45 dcl versus 48. That just doesn't seem like much, but my neighbor has this other model and says she can't even hear it when its on.

I think your expectations are not realistic. No DW is silent, despite what your neighbor or the folks around here tell you. If you can hear it everywhere you have a tiny house of there is something seriously wrong with the unit. If the latter you'll know after 6 mo.

Most noise problems I've run into have to do with installation issues. Is there cabinet toekick in front of the unit? are there gaps around the sides because of face frames, laminate counter, ect.....? Sound can vary depending on your specific dishes, arrangement, and how full the load is.

We have a top of the line Bosch DW for about 2.5 years and are crazy about it. VERY QUIET. We can listen to the radio, talk on the phone, read, whatever while the DW is on, and it does not interfere. So I think maybe you bought the wrong model, or, it was not installed properly.

You mentioned the possibility of exchanging the DW with another one that has a lower DB noise level rating. Since DB ratings are on a logarithmic scale, even a difference of a few points can translate to a big difference in noise level. Each point on the DB means a 10 times difference in noise level, so a 2 point difference translates to a 100 times difference in noise level. That's a lot.

Hi Serinad, Have you tried a different detergent? Not all detergents work best in all water types. This is not the dishwasher manufacturers fault but it is easy to blame them. Have you tried contacting Finish? Their phone number is on your box of detergent. They may have some suggestions for you. It's a detergents responsibility to hold fats and oils in suspension in the water not the dishwasher. The d/w is designed to circulate and heat the water. As an appliance tech I find Quantum works great for most of my customers. (read most but not all). Sometimes I recommend switching detergents and this will take care of complaints such as yours. I've found that customers who complain about greasy residude have better luck using Cascade Complete with Dawn packs than with some of the other detergents. However I've also found that customers using Cascade that had washing complaints were much happier with Quantum. It all has to do with water conditions for your home. At this point I would recommend you switch to Cascade if you have already contacted Finish and they couldn't solve your issue.

Black grease spots on dishes in Bosch DW?

Hi All, I've been looking through this forum and haven't come across this issue on here. I have a Bosch SHE58C dishwasher and for the past few months I have noticed black grease spots on my dishes. I have tried cleaning the gasket around the top, because I have noticed dishes on the top rack sometimes have black grease streaks if they are just a bit too high when I try to close the top shelf. Has anyone encountered this before? The grease spots tend to stick to any plastic items such as my kids' sippy cups, but not so much to the dishes. Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated!

Just retired my 14 yo Bosch DW. Not what I paid, but it retails today for over $1K. I just threw in a "dent" discounted cheapo for $200 waiting for the remodel. Effective but loud and not pretty. Thermador is part of Bosch. Often their DWs are very similar.

antss hit my point already.

Who installed the unit? I would bet that is the problem more than the dishwasher because outside of a hum and some water splashing a properly installed bosch is most peoples idea of quiet. If you were expecting SILENT than you were most likely misled, but quiet enough to stand next to and have a normal level conversation? Absolutley

I would look into if the instillation is proper, is it tightly enclosed between the cabs, counter top and at the bottom. If these things are right, call the dealer as something is wrong. I have had a near top of the line and now a mid Bosch and both very quiet.

I had them install it. Im not looking for silent just quiet enough to be able to watch tv in another room or sleep in the bedrooms while its running, a conversation in the same room is impossible! I thought I had it with a Bosch, but not so. It makes me feel better to know just a few DB makes a huge dif, I didn't know that. Thank you so much for explaining that. My friends is the same evolution but the next model up at 3 DB lower in noise level. I wasn't sure it would make that big of a difference. Today I exchanged it for the next model up from hers. Im sure something has to be wrong with it, but Im not taking any chances.

Thank you all so much for your help. Im just hoping for the bare minimum of noise since we run it so much, my house is huge and kitchen and bedrooms are at opposites sides of the house with the laundry in between, I can still hear every noise it makes. So frustrating, but I'll give you my take on the SHE98 that is coming in 19 days.
