I have Fisher Paykel dish drawers. Fits all your requirements. Actually I think NO modern dishwashers require prerinsing.

But if you want really super dry items, you might want to avoid the ones with European style drying, which is basically rinse-aid paired with low-heat. They dry OK, but in my experience, the DWs with heated dry are a little better. On the other hand, if you have a lot of plastic items, you might not want the high heat drying because I think it requires plastics stay on the top shelf to avoid being melted. I stopped being helpful, didn't I? :)

I have a feeling you are replacing an old dishwasher and are in for a pleasant surprise whatever you get.

KAs, Whirlpools, and Kenomores made by Whirlpool, not Bosch, will meet your needs.

Any decent dishwasher should clean without rinsing. My 8 year old entry-level Kenmore got dishes clean without scraping, nevermind rinsing. You could put peach pits in there and it would grind 'em up. It dried plastics, and occasionally melted them if they fell through to the heating element.

My new Bosch cleans beautifully, looks nicer, and cost twice as much, but considering inflation that's not bad. :) Your best bet is to find one that loads well for the dishes you use -- and that is the only drawback to my $800 Bosch. Pickier to load and doesn't hold as much.

You didn't mention QUIET as one of you requirements.

We have a top of the line Bosch for over 2 years,and are very satisfied with its performance. We do not prewash. We wipe loose food off plates with a used paper napkin or a paper towel. Everything comes out dry, but we do not wash plastic things in the DW, so I cannot answer that question. And the Bosch is QUIET. You can listen to the radio, talk on the phone, whatever right next to the machine. It is that quiet.

It also has a very effective RINSE AND HOLD cycle. So if you have just a partial load and don't want to run a whole cycle, you can do that. The other nice feature is you can do a TOP RACK ONLY wash cycle. If you have about a half load you can put it all in the top rack and it will wash it using less water and electicity than a regular 2 rack load. This is very convenient when one of us is on the road and the one who's home has just a small load.

Yes, I'm coming from an ancient DW in my kitchen redo. Just being able to set it to wash later at night would mean the noise factor wouldn't matter. I never run it when we're trying to watch TV in the next room anyway. :)

I heard there are some that will work with your existing GD for food disposal, and was interested maybe in that.
I've heard great things about Bosch, but that like any other high end brand, their "low end" models which is what is in my price range aren't that great.

Love my Kitchenaid. Scrape and load. Very roomy, heated drying, food disposer, quiet. All for under $1K.

It sounds like I have some options then! I think I like that option of only doing half a load too. Sounds like I'll be looking at the Bosch and the KA. But I've learned my lesson after my recent fridge purchase about Sears. I'm going to go to a locally owned appliance store. They cater mostly to the upper end appliances, but I think they have a few for my budget.
Sears sales people don't seem to know a thing about their products. They are only there to ring you up! But, that's another story.

External garbage disposers have nothing to do with dishwashers in regards to food scrap disposal. Any handling of food scraps must be done inside the dishwasher.

There are, of course, dishwashers that have food macerators/choppers, but regardless of popular opinion and demonstrations of running a full-size baked cake through the machine, they are NOT intended to handle a large volume of food scrap as if they are a disposer. They *can* get clogged. Dishwashers nowadays use minimal amounts of water, 1.25 gals or less per fill ... so flushing food scrap out of them isn't on par with running a faucet for several minutes through a garbage disposer.

As has been said, *any* dishwasher on the market, except perhaps the very lowest-end models, should not require extensive prerinsing. I scrape, but don't rinse (not even a Rinse/Hold cycle), and routinely leave dishes for several days before running the load.

Thanks for that info. I'm considering a Samsung DMR57LFB model, or the Frigidaire FGHD2471KB. Both are under $1,000 and have the features I've found are most important:
1. adjustable upper rack
2. food disposal
3. good drying option

It's so scary when you go to sites like my3cents, and read all the horrific customer service problems people are having with ALL of these mid priced lines. It's really disgusting. If you read enough, you'll find you should stay away from every single brand out there. Of course I realize that for every complaint posted, there are 500 other happy customers.

It's a shame that the ones with the least complaints - Miele, etc, are simply out of my price range.
