Anyone ever use a soap dispenser in the bathroom?

We have three little, messy boys. I spend a part of each week scrubbing the excess soap off their countertops where they dribbled it from their soap containers. I also don't like the look of the containers and thought a soap dispenser would work beautifully (combined with the never MT tubing) to keep them in soap for ages!

Has anyone ever done this? Does it work with a widespread faucet? The vanities will be 36", 42" and 60" respectively in each kids bath.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

I think your plan would definitely backfire in my house. My daughter thinks it is a very fun game to push the soap dispenser.

Can anyone recommend a dispenser with a LONG spout? The one we have now (Price Pfister) has an utterly useless 2" spout. I have found a 3 7/8" spout, also 3 1/2", but am wondering if there are any that are longer. The new sink is 10" deep. We weren't going to get a new soap dispenser, but after reading this thread, I thought, "I don't want ugly bottles on my new granite!" I could do a rack mounted on the sink cabinet door, but I think the dispenser is neater :-) It just needs a long spout so it can actually squirt dish soap into the pots, instead of dribbling down the side of the sink. Will definitely get a NeverMT--so glad that I heard of it here!

Hi Madeline, Thank you for remebering me. I ended up with one Hansgrohe soap dispenser on the prep sink and one Grohe soap dispenser on the clean up sink. We are moving back into the house this week end and will likely hook up the NeverMT either this week or next. I'll let you know how it goes. We will use dawn dish detergent. Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully someone with experience will respond to you regarding the spring mechanism on your pump. If not, try starting a new thread. Best of luck! MJ

The Japanese bathrooms don't look like my thing. Maybe if I actually tried them I'd like them. I'm always confounded by our recent germaphobia. Lack of cleanliness can kill you. I think we're also killing ourselves with too much cleanliness. We do need some germs in our life. The litter box gets hosed down outside, but I do use my tub as a big washing receptacle for other things as the occasion arises. A tub can be cleaned and sanitized if needed. My big thing is whether there is something like kitty litter or grease that would clog the drain. I don't use my sinks or tubs for mop water because I don't want the dog and cat hair clogging my drain. I put mop water in the big plastic tubs and then pour it in the back yard when I'm done. The dog gets a bath in the tub, but I try to screen out the hair before it goes down the drain. Afterwards, the bath is cleaned out, wiped down and rinsed with cups of water. We move on with our lives. Some germs are worse than others, but they aren't all bad.

I sure hope it works, because that's exactly what we're doing in all our baths during the home reno. Unfortunately nothing's complete yet, so I can't share with you direct experience. FWIW, we're using a single-hole faucet. We would have done this with/without the soap dispenser option, but I would think it would start getting cluttered with a 8" (or even 4") spread faucet.

I am worried about the clutter but we have already purchased the 3 hole faucets and I much prefer the look of a widespread. I wonder if it is less cluttered looking than a separate soap pump?

Hope someone chimes in who has done it!

Shoot, this thread reminds me that 4 years ago I saved NeverMT's so I could do soap dispensers in our bathrooms when we got around to doing them- which is now! The granite and faucets are all in now. Now, I think the only bathroom I'd consider putting a soap dispenser in is the kids bath, but I'm not sure there's room.

I guess it also depends on whether I could find soap dispensers that I liked (ie didn't look like they belonged in public bathrooms!).

We put a wall-mounted soap dispenser in our remodeled bathroom. Our kids can use it fine. Our bathroom is quite small, so this was a way to free up surface area. We also installed the matching toothbrush holder. (These are from the same collection as our faucets and towel bars, so it was an easy choice.)

I realize this is not what you asked, but hope it helps all the same. :)

We have one on our 36" vanity and love it! The faucet is a single hole and the sink is a large undermount (Kohler Ladena 20 7/8") Wonderful to not have extra containers and no goopy soap bar.

My only suggestion is to watch what color soap you use. Our sink is white and the if you move your hand away too fast after pushing on the plunger, some of the soap falls into the sink (definitely better than on the counter) but then I was getting purple soap drips in the sink. Now I use clear or white soap and it is not noticable. Definitely worth it, especially for kids.
