Irfanview is a nice little popular freebie. Be sure to grab the plug ins too. It is not hard to master either. You know you can 'write' on the backs of your photos I suppose? If you right click on the file name or photo then click Properties. Click the 'Summary' tab and you can add your title and comments there. Try also clicking on the Advanced tab and you will be amazed at the data already stored there regarding the camera that took the shot. I added that in case you were only looking to write on them for identification needs. Here's an example of the sort of thing that can be done with it. In the first picture, choosing to give the sky reasonable lighting ended up darkening the barn to the point where the image was delete-worthy. But Silver Efex Pro not only salvaged it, but created a dramatic image that I like a lot. Other than color removal, the only change was to the lighting.

No, it does not resize. One has to use something like onlineimageresize. com. It is not necessary to resize on Houzz. There are some times--not many--that I do have to resize an image for a blog or auction.

Thanks, sheeisback. Yes, I'll be the one doing the editing. DD has her hands full, as does DSIL, tending to babies. DD called a professional photographer today, so the heat is off trying to get good newborn pictures for the announcements. I have a little breathing room to look at various editing programs. I've begun to understand the concept of layers. I played with Pixlr Editor for a while yesterday. There aren't a lot of tutorials online for Pixlr. Some of the best I found were for grammar school children (hmmm...I think that says it all). Haven't tried Gimp yet.
