What was I thinking? Please help me clean my shower!

My bathroom remodel was 99% complete almost a year ago. My shower walls have white subway tile with white grout and the shower floor is 4x4 tumbled marble tile. I was in awe of the look at didn't really think about how to clean the combination. I come from the cleaning school of "just pour some bleach on it", but knowing I couldn't do that because of the marble, I haven't done a great job of maintaining either. Now some of the grout on the walls look really bad, and the floor looks grungy in general. I might be seeing things, but I think the spot where we stand is definitly worse. What can I use to power clean all of it, or is the marble trashed??

When we thought our door was going to be too small, that is exactly what my GC said he could do, was cut it down. We too bought the Fluence (which by the way I was told is the exact same door that's on "in stock" on the floors at the Big Box stores) and when we discovered the door was actually going to be too small, my GC built out the whole wall so it would fit and not have a funky edge. I wouldn't blame the tile guy unless he's your general contractor for the job. I hate to say this but in construction you can't just assume something will fit. Things vary in size and it would have been wise to have discussed this with him BEFORE laying the tile. When you add the thickness of the backerboard, thinset & tile, it can take as much as 1.5 inches on each side of your opening and this needs to be taken into consideration when you are measuring for the door. I hope that Bill or Mongo step in with a suggestion, and you're able to find a resolution.

WOW All we got here is a lot of neuroses popping out in all directions ... someone who was cheated on is SURE that the behavior means cheating, someone who was not cheated on thinks it means nothing ... and we have no real substantive data to make an evaluation on, so we all go off half-cocked based on our own positive or negative neurotic interpretations of her situation. None of that helps ... So what to do ? Well first of all concentrate on your own mental health and happiness and stability OUTSIDE of fixations with him. Reward yourself a couple times a day in some small constructive way for good things you do. Reward him in some small ways with a "thank you" when he does something good for you ... "Catch him doing something good" make the most of things and be as positive as you can be. If there is a real and substntive problem, it will eventually be fully revealed, if not, worrying and crying and getting upset will not help ... but just create a problem for you and him both. Make yourself happy and healthy. Dont hold your life hostage to his.

You can't really touch up a rolled wall with a brush and expect it to blend in. Eggshell is tough to touch up, but you need to use a roller or dab the paint on with a brush to simulate the texture the roller made.

If it's not possible to pay a professional exterminator to deal with the mice there are several things you can do. First, put any food in mouse-proof containers. A big pain to do, but necessary. Set some traps, even though disposing of the corpses will increase the disgusting factor significantly. Seal any obvious openings to the outside. Adopt two cats. Eliminate any sources of drinking water for your guests. Try some ear plugs for yourself until things quiet down. Fifteen year old girls forced to live with eighteen year old brothers have enough that's gross and horrible to deal with without any mice at all, so I do wish you the best of luck in dealing with your problem. Also, anyone who correctly uses "whilst" is deserving of a much better fate. Please let us know how things go.

Oxi-Clean powder made into a paste with some water can help with the white grout. Try in a spot and make sure it doesn't cause the floor to be too slick. I used it on tile walls and it worked very well. Just apply the paste with your finger and let it dry a little before scrubbing with a small brush to see how it works in your situation. (I used it on glazed tile, not tumbled marble.)

If the grout is moldy, try Tilex Spray for Mold Removal. It works fast and does a great job.

I also swear by baking soda and water for some stubborn stains. Hope this helps.

The Tilex spray is chlorine bleach based. I'm not sure that would be good on the marble - or the grout.

Correct. Stick with the Oxyclean, and maybe a brush to agitate it. You don't have to go so far as to make it into a paste. Mix it double the strength that they suggest on the side of the tub, and scrub it with the brush. It'll do a much better job than chlorine bleach, and it's not nearly as harmful.

After getting it clean, check with a tile expert about what sealer may be good to help with protecting the grout and tile in the future.
