We took the doors off the closet in one of our bedrooms (empty nesters here) and put up adjustable shelving. I bought these plastic containers years ago. They work great for fabric and other sewing supplies. I just pull one of them out and set it on my cutting table as I go through the fabrics to see what I might want to use. I have them mostly organized by color but do have a few that just hold scraps. If you quilt you'll know why. ; ) Not shown but on the top shelf I keep seasonal florals and some craft supplies like paint in plastic bins with lids. The closet goes back about 2 feet on one side past the opening so I have deep shelves there for batting, pillow forms, and those yards of decorator fabric that seem to follow me home from my favorite fabric haunts. Also, on one side of the room I have over head cabinets and lower drawers with a laminate top for my sewing machines. My DH made the top from a door and made a custom cutout for my machines. Love it and love him. : ) My upper cabs hold all my quilting and general sewing books, various sewing supplies, buttons in jars, etc. The lower drawers, 6 of them, hold thread, scissors/rotary cutters, pins, rulers, trims, machine feet and tools, patterns, etc. I really love that all these things are behind doors/drawers - much cleaner and safer. My large cutting table has two drop down sides so it can be stored in the closet when not in use. You've probably seen them at JoAnn's. I've had mine for about 20 years and it still works great. But I am going to have hubs make a new one with wire baskets underneath so I can store some of my fabric in it instead of on the shelves. HTH! Have fun with your new room!

Alright. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I'm looking for my neighbors key mostly. That is the main goal! Of course it's not in the hall craft closet, but there was a good chance it was dropped in the bathrooms or in the utility room. I have completely cleaned those three areas (two bathrooms, one utility room). I have also completely cleaned my boy's room. I have pretty much personally touched everything, looked under everything, moved everything. And no key. No ipods. I have also completely cleaned out my van. Looked under seats, cleaned out jocky boxes, put my hand between seat bottom and backs. You get the idea. I have cleaned out kitchen drawers thinking the key might have been sitting on the counter and fell into the drawers. Nope! So all those areas look nice as does under the kitchen sink. And now I"m wondering- What next?

Wow! I am going through something similar! I volunteered to go through my MIL's recipes and type them so they would be in a nice single bound album. The trouble with recipes (my own included) is that we tear them out of magazines, newspapers or have different sized handwritten cards. My MIL is close to death now and I can't really ask her WHICH recipe she used when there were duplicate or triplicate of a certain cake or banana bread. For me scanning is out. Some of the original handwritten recipes are barely legible on paper that is disintigrating. But they are fascinating to look at! Crazykwilter, I don't know if your granny did the same thing, but my MIL neglected to put the title on many of her handwritten recipes! So I just have to guess what they are! I am doing this with her 2 daughters blessings. She also has 6 sons but being guys they aren't real interested unless it is to taste test something. My MIL was a fantastic cook. I only wish I could have started this earlier when I could have had her expert guidance. Right now I have almost her entire collection spread out on my bedroom floor in catagories. My husband was surprised to see that his mother used newspaper and magazine recipes! I told him she wasn't THAT old! (83). I told him most women DO have newspaper and magazine recipes. And now I have the internet too. But it would be nice to have them re-typed, uniform size and re-printable in case of spills. It's all a labor of love. Good luck, crazykwilter, with yours!
