Cool Drawer is a an albatross. On paper all the flexibility looks great, but how often are you going to empty everything to change from cheese, butter and lettuce storage to ice cream and frozen pizzas ??? It doesn't have an ice maker if you choose to use it as a freezer. The biggest drawback is it's width. At 33 11/16 " or 855 mm wide it is too wide to make for efficient access and that is also a non standard cabinet width. Makes planning difficult too. So, you are looking at a MANDATORY custom built cabinet and more $$$. Some factory brands simply won't produce a panel that wide for an integrated look. At approx $2500 ea. It's not cheap either.

i can't stand to order from anyone in new orleans--my experience calling the authorized dealers and asking for prices was that bad! i got my big sz fridge in january and regret buying it in town. i just bought four miele appliances last month online and new orleans lost my business. there are a few good appliance places with friendly salespeople, but they don't deal in the higher end.

Changing the first filter was hard because the installer used big honkin' working man muscles to tighten it so tight we needed tools to unscrew it (I had psychologist man muscles working on it, but he needed pliers for leverage). The real difficulty, however, is changing the filter, and fixing the filter code, without warming up the freezer. After my third change I've learned a few things: The book says that when the filter light first comes on it's just a warning, and when the light changes state (starts or stops blinking--can't remember which), it's time to change. Tech help told me I should change as soon as it comes on, and that the trouble I've had resetting the filter indicator comes from letting it go to the end. In that case, it has to be changed in program mode rather than customer mode. The other thing I've learned is not to even try to reset right after changing the filter. My unit won't go into customer mode if it's even a little warm, and if it loses too much cool, it won't go into program either. It's basically trying to say, "Shut the door, idiot!!!" It's easy enough to change the filter and wait a number of hours. I always set aside some ice, because you're supposed to throw away the first 24 hrs. worth, so waiting another 6-12 hours is no biggie. But what defines "hard"? For me, it's the procedure to get into customer mode or program mode. It's arcane in a way that only a German engineer could like. It's like looking for easter eggs in a computer game. I can't hold the instructions and do the routine at the same time. That's "hard".

I wanted a 30" counter depth unit, so the choice was pretty much Leibherr or Sub Zero. Looked at both - two things really stood out to me on features: 1. The freezer: the Leibherr has a swing door, then removable drawers. Access is easy: you can stand in front of the thing and pull out what you want, or you can simply pull the whole drawer out and put it on the table. The SubZero is one huge freezer drawer, with another inside it. You can't see what's in there half as well as in the Leibherr set up, plus you have to bend over the drawer front to get at anything. 2. The Leibherr handles have a little 'push' mechanism to release the very tight seal. Whenever I have used SZs, I hated the very hard tug you have to use to get the doors open - makes my arm ache, frankly. Plus, two independent appliances stores I talked to said they'd had no maintenance issues with Leibherr, but scores with SZ. Those things, plus price, made it a total no-brainer decision. Two years later, still loving my Leibherr.
