Back To School Table

Copied this tablescape (centerpiece and color scheme) from various blogs on the internet. Had all the pieces already, except for the candle. You can't see it in the pictues, but there's an original Fun with Dick and Jane in the centerpiece. I'll be keeping my eye out for some red salt and pepper shakers (maybe apple S&P shakers) and yellow soup/salad bowls.

I love it! Really like the way you did the name tags around the candles and those placemats are perfect for it. How perfect to have the perfect color handles on your silverware even! Yep, apple salt/peppers would be just the right addition. Great job! Luvs

Thanks everybody. Karen, how about "inspinablers?" Jane, I miss the students, but not the rest. At my first HS, I had my own room to decorate, but at my last school, I did not have my own classroom, but traveled from room to room, so not much decorating went on there. I found the little desk at a TS when I was still teaching. I actually have a real one like that without the seat, that I use in my FR as an end table. It was also a TS find. Janet, I still have apple decor in my kitchen, so the wooden apple in the ivy came from there. Magpie, I guess I just lucked out, because after I saw OA's table, I thought that would be a great idea for those dishes that I had just bought last week. Then, when I was in one of my TS on Sat. I found the little schoolhouse and the apple on the stack of books which is also a music box. Both were 1/2 off, and I love music boxes, so of course, they came home with me! Then I had to figure out how to use them on the table. I "borrowed" OA's idea of using pencils and added the rest. There is actually a small globe on the other side of the desk. Just a small part of it is peeking out in the photo. Punk, I usually use those apple napkin rings as decor standing in a row along the top of my wall ovens, but I had to borrow them for the table. Bing, add my DITTO on what the others said. This is just the cutest table...and that sheet is soooo PERFECT as a tablecloth!!! I love it. I need to snag your photo and put it in our gang's tablesetting album on Photobucket, so it can "saved". You did such a neat job of finding stuff to use. I'm the Forum's Tablesetting Dummy! I just can't seem to figure out how to do them. No imagination...or maybe I have a phobia about dishes. LOL. hugs, Karen

My 6th grade SS doesn't live with us, but since we know he has organizational issues, we have him bring his backpack with him on the weekends. Only 3 weeks into school and his backpack had a rat's nest of papers crumpled at the bottom - including some missing homework assignments and things for his mom to sign. We emptied out the backpack last weekend and sorted through everything. Put everything in the binder where it belonged. Bought some folders for the binders so he has a place to stuff papers that don't have holes punched in them. Bought a folder (the kind that has a flap and a piece of elastic to close it) for papers that he should take home to his mom. Will he use the folders and put stuff away in his binders??? Sigh... maybe. But probably not all the time. So we'll clean out the backpack again this Friday... And the Friday after that... and the one after that.... Is it a hopeless cause? Maybe so, but at least he now has some tools to organize with (binders and folders) and hopefully he'll learn some organizational skills. After all, the more he stays organized during the week, the less time he has to spend on it over the weekend. Oh, for your original question: homework lives in the class folder/binder for at least the whole grading period. Sports schedules live on the fridge. Permission slips live in the backpack (hopefully in their designated folder!). School library books live in the backpack. Public library books live on the coffee table. The school lunch menu lives only online :)

Ahh. Back to school. With only one of four left in HS, Back-to-School is dwindling. It is so much simpler now. There is only one child in one sport. And only one to track along on their school work. We will have time to deal with our overdue HOUZZ projects now that summer R&R is over. So let me weigh in on the controversial mamby-pamby comment. Hate to see name calling. It's negative and unnecessary. As for patience with the new traffic patterns, this is to the parents who take their children to their bus stops and feel compelled to chat with the bus driver. Please DON'T. It is really inconsiderate. The bus drivers are at work. They don't have time for social hour. It may brighten your day to "brighten their day" but it is not the time nor the place to "make a difference in the bus drivers' lives". I have been part of huge lines where the same parents do it daily. All the cars that are stuck behind the bus (and lawfully NOT passing the school bus) actually have somewhere to go. They sure do. Maybe it is an appointment. Or maybe, just maybe, they are trying to get to their job. Keep that in mind. Fortunately it is a small number of parents who want to chat it up. Unfortunately it has a big impact.

Wonderful take on the "Back to School" tablescape! I can remember learning to read with the "Fun with Dick & Jane" series. Wow...that goes way back, doesn't it! Great idea to put that with your other terrific centerpiece items. Glad Luvs pointed out the placecard chalkboards, almost missed them - terrific! The checkered placemats seem very school-ish too! You get an A+!! Thanks for sharing!

Clever idea with the chalk boards. I really like your flatware. I like how the red just makes it all pop.
Dick & Jane...Nice memories for me too. I always used to get teased over Jane...but loved it.

Ha!! I can relate...I don't drink either, so I always relied on Tums, Tylenol and a Strong, Hot Cup of Tea!! Weren't those long holiday weekends and Week long Vacations a Blessing?? Don't know how I would have survived w/o them!
