i was doing a search about cleaning the tile and glass shower (tile walls, glass door) and I came across this topic. I am getting tired of having to clean/wipe down the shower more than once a day. I always squeegee then wipe down the walls whenever I take a shower. However when the shower gets used more than once a day (which is every day) I get tired of doing it multiple times a day. It takes me 10 full minutes to squeegee then wipe. (4x6 shower). Is it enough to wipe it down once a day, or do I really need to play maid to everyone in the house who showers any time of day?

Hard water in and of itself is it's own problem. Mildew in the grout is usually moisture being held in the wall. Today's construction methods; topical membranes, better ventilation, better grout formulations, should eliminate that. Streaky walls? I'm a bar soap guy, for years we used Zest which had no oils. We did absolutely nothing to clean our shower other than a brushing down maybe every 6 months or so. If even that. A few months ago we started getting residue on the walls. Checked, a sure enough Zest reformulated their bar soap. Same holds true for hair care products. Watch the labels. Dark tile will show more than light tile. Glass will show everything. If you go with a hand held shower on a hose, you can use the hand held to rinse down the walls. That'll prevent "dirty water" from drying on the wall and leaving a hazy film of product residue behind.

I only test if I'm making up a color of grout..nothing elaborate. Last one I mixed up two colors of grout with thinset and tested different ratios. I was using only teaspoons and spreading on a paper plate and putting some of my main colors next to it. I did that because I was sure how much lighter the thinset would make it dry. Not that you asked but I don't think I would use black on your piece. I think your darker areas like pebbles and buttons would just show up like big dark areas from afar. Maybe I'm wrong; you'd know better. I also don't use much black with a lot of china. Love it with brighter glass. I use either a yellowy tan or a beige tan quite a bit.

My hardwood floors are probably filthy, but look really good. I have them throughout the first floor. I sweep them daily, and run the occasional Swiffer WetJet on the kitchen portion of the floor in front of the sink, dishwasher and stove. I have tried a lot of things when mopping, and found that I prefer to use hot, HOT water and a damp rag mop once a month to get them really clean. I often have to refill the water, as it is black during this cleaning. Should probably do it more often, but I don't have the time.
