Plain white, glossy tile - large format size - under $3.50 sq/ft
Comments (9)White ceramics or porcelains are not the easiest thing to find because white is difficult to get "white". It's worse than the 10,000 posts a year in the Décor Forum asking about the "perfect" white. Most tiles actually aren't all that white when you objectively judge them against a white balance scale, especially the red clay based ones. White glazes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. And the whitest white tiles are the most expensive because of that difficulty. The whitest white tiles are usually a white bodied porcelain, with an expensive white glaze for the top surface. "Plain" is also more difficult to achieve than a tile with a little bit of a swirl or movement to the color, or texture to the finish. A plain glossy tile has to be absolutely perfectly smooth, or you notice it. Simple IS usually the hardest thing to create in any design, because of the much tighter tolerances and no trims to fall back on. You're asking for a double whammy, truly white and plain,...See MoreFloor Tile Pattern Dilemma: Diagonal or Straight?
Comments (22)Brutuses, Thank you! I just tried my 12 X 12 samples and I can only fit 2 on the diagonal in my skinny long foyer hallway and three on the diagonal in my front foyer that I had thought was wider! I guess 12 X 12 is the best sized tile for my foyers. i want to go with bigger tiles for my kitchen on the diagonal. Bill Vincent, what is the name of that tile in the bathroom that I love and I know would look great in my bathroom? Is it a porcelain ceramic? My monitor has it very light but with shades of variation in it and very rich looking....See MoreHow much did you spend on your kitchen tile? (sq/ft)
Comments (35)hellonasty, I fell hard for the barcode tiles. When I found out the price, I told DH that we couldn't spend that much on tiles. So I looked for months and months. I went to every tile store in 150 miles. I brought home other samples. Nothing spoke to me. DH totally surprised me with a dozen of them for my birthday, and asked, "Will this be enough of them?" Yes, Yes, OMG Yes! I planned the whole backsplash around those tiles. All the rest of the tiles came in at under $100. The week at the wet saw cutting down the field tiles was so worth it....See MoreNeed help designing and laying out a 1200sq ft house.
Comments (25)Three random thoughts: - Reality check: In 1200 sf, you're not going to get 3 bedrooms, a 4-piece master bath, a walk-in closet, a second bathroom, a studio AND a walk-in utility room. Just not gonna happen. You must either plan for more space OR prioritize what's most important. - Google 1200 sf house plans. You'll find a ton. I'm not saying they'll all be wonderful, but consider them a starting place /a learning tool. - You've pushed your bedrooms to the exterior, which leaves your main living space (where you're awake), to the dark middle of your house. Especially in such a small space, ample windows on two sides of the room will make your space seem larger. This particular floor arrangement is common here (master ensuite on one side and other bedrooms on the opposite side). It's common here too. Common doesn't mean good design. Actually, I don't see a real advantage of switching the tub with the shower. It places the tub, where you're more likely to linger, closer to the window. Is that enough reason? Eh, I dunno....See Moretim45z10
