I can't give you advice on preventing future scratches, but if the area where you scrached your appliance is true stainless steel (call the manufacturer to find out for sure), Scratch b gone may help remove the scratches. It did for me on my GE Cafe range! good luck!

I have stainless counters with an electric smoothtop inset. Love the combination. Everything wipes off. You can see it if you scroll down on the link. If you need a close up let me know and I can take one. After having this I would never do anything else. What you're asking about sounds very logical -- especially with wok splatter. I've seen many ranges, cooktops and rangetops with stainless on either side then another counter surface. I've been thinking about switching out to induction, the Wolf one will fit the opening but my hesitation has nothing to do with the counters -- I'd need to make alterations in the heavily used utensil drawer below the cooktop and probably also drill air holes in the backs of the pot drawers below. Typical of a retrofit, I'd need to make other expensive cabinet tweaks as well. Enough changes this year. BTW a cooktop has controls on top. A rangetop has controls in front. We have the Bosch 800 induction with the stainless steel edges at the back and front. Crumbs have never been an issue for me. When I wipe the cooktop after cleaning, I just give a quick wipe around the edges, as well, and it's good to go. I've never had a ceramic cooktop, only gas prior to this, but the induction stays cool around the edges and crumbs don't seem to bake on at that area.
