Cleaning mold from marble shower
Comments (3)Was the area dry and clear of mold when it was installed? Keep it clean and dry, so mold doesn't grow. Consult the manufacturer for recommended cleaning products and use that exclusively. Use a squeegee or a towel on the tiles and shower doors after showering to remove excess water. Air circulation will keep things from staying damp so open a window or turn on the exhaust fan, and leave the shower doors and the bathroom door open so it can completely dry out after each use....See MoreCleaning Grout & Caulk & Travertine tiles
Comments (4)I've never heard of this product, and I'd like to see an MSDS (on the grout cleaner) before I pass judgement on it. However, one thing I did see was the following: Since the Sealer actually bonds to the grout, it is able repel water, food, grease, mold, mildew and more keeping grout looking new! It is colorless and protects the natural color of grout against stains, Ultimate Grout Sealer contains no harmful solvents. Two things wrong with that quote. First, sealer shouldn't repel water. Any sealer that repels water from getting in, will also SEAL moisture from getting out, giving mold and bacteria a chance to get started. This is the whole reason why the best sealers on the market are breatheable. Secondly, it touts the fact that it's not solvent based. This is kind of a kick, because solvent based sealers are known to be much better than water based. They penetrate deeper into the stone, and therefore, last much longer than water based sealers. It would seem to me that this product is targeted toward DIYers and end useds, because no one who knows what they're doing would use such a sealer....See MoreMold resistant grout for subway tile surround
Comments (19)Check with the tile experts to be sure, but I believe that I have read that you do not want to be the first customer that your tiler has ever used epoxy grout with. Let him experiment elsewhere and know what he is doing before doing yours. That said, Marty 180, everything I have read in my research on redoing my bathroom leads me to believe that if you are going to have tile in a shower, epoxy grout is the only way to go! Personally, I am not going to have tile. I am not a good enough cleaner to deal with it. My lungs can't use most cleansers and my hands and wrists can't scrub. I give in. Solid surface, here I come!...See MoreOctagon floor tile + grout + shower walls = epic cleaning failure?!?
Comments (13)Maybe it depends on where you live and how humid it is inside and how good the ventilation is in your bathroom. I am in the Pacific NW which is not exactly the desert, and I have never in 30 years had mildew on any surface in the bathroom. I'm not Susie Homemaker either, and I wait to see stuff rather than do "pre-emptive" cleaning, if you know what I mean. I have seen the pink stuff (bacteria, not mold) that grows on grout and behind caulk before, though! On the epoxy grout, it shows up only down near the bottom row of tiles and it comes right off without serious scrubbing. We always use liquid soap and spritz with an after shower spray once in a while. I agree a yellowing of white grout with those tiles would not be good, but I bet you could get away with a gray....See Moregardenspice
