little Junk Trees

I added these photos to my Photobucket album but no explanation. Saw these last year on Garden Junk forum I believe, but not sure since they are indoor items. Styrofoam Xmas tree form, and then attach any little item you want and cover it totally. Old jewelry or fun items or whatever you like. One tree was filled with tiny childhood toy pieces and NOT spray painted, it was a real cute keepsake idea. But these pictured were spray painted one color for Holiday display. I think they are really cute.

I agree with you Karen, those are cute as heck. You found that on Garden Junk???, I wonder if those are real leaves in the top pic.

They really are cute. It would be fun to identify what the different pieces were that went into them.

And HOW MANY pieces do you all think were involved in them? It really looks like a LOT!

Thank you ladies! I don't know why I didn't step back so I could get a pic of all three posts! LOL that was dumb. the biggest hoop has the biggest star.. it barely fits in the hoop. The other two hoops are of slightly different sizes but the stars are the same size. still works, I think! I was thinking of attaching them all together somehow and afixing it to the siding above the garage, permanently! (or hanging from the eaves of garage above the double garage door)

Most men won't divulge their avoidance strategies. But you nailed it. It's exasperating (he also thinks I should make lists) to be sent back to square one, but often it's necessary to "rethink hasty decisions" that seem wonderful at the time. I'm on my 3rd or 4th rethink of my front garden, and if I had done any of the first three, it would have been terrible. But the fourth is a gem; DH agreed immediately, and I'm loving the results. Avoidance isn't all bad if you avoid bad decisions. I know I've had more than my share. DHs that go along to get along are under-utilizing their talents and purpose in life. Don't hate me, ladies. We don't want clones of ourselves, right? Thank you, pete41, for your insight. But after 30 years I still don't make lists. I'm not wired that way, but I'm glad he is. Sherry

Do little trees make suckers?

As Bboy says, if they are pines or other conifers, they shouldn't sucker and lopping them off near the soil surface should be the end of them. If they are broadleaved trees, some species may try to sucker, and some may try to send up new buds from the crown area at the soil surface. To prevent that, lop them off just below the soil surface so that you are cutting below the crown and getting a little bit of root. You could also lop them off near the soil, then immediately paint the fresh cut with full strength, concentrated (40+%) glyphosate.

I had seen those too, and thought how fun it would be for guests to sit and look to see what each object was. ;o) Really a fun idea. (Good way to get put all those bits & bobs cluttering up our drawers to use too!)

Sal, I'm pretty sure they would have used silk leaves. How do you think they attached them to the tree? Would hot glue hold them to styrofoam? Inquiring minds want to know! LOL

Yeah, Jenn, it looks like LOTS of pieces! Do you remember the flat ones made using old jewelry? They were in a frame and looked like a 3D picture. One gal said she bought a whole box of junk jewelry at an auction for cheap and decided to use it to make her tree.

Hi, Luvs-- I'd entirely forgotten about the flat ones made of jewelry!

I know even just hanging pieces of jewelry on my Shabby Chic style tree took a LOT of pieces. I was picking them up over the course of the year. I still pick up pieces that look like they'll work when I see them.

Who said decorating was easy? :-)

LOL, I'd be lazy and get a pretty small styrofoam tree. I was thinking it would be cute to use the tiny wood ornaments that are made like the old-fashioned ones...you know what I'm talking about? Usually a rocking horse, nutcracker, etc. Apply a bunch of these with floral pins or wire, not sure I'd trust glue. Add beads and other bits n pieces. Oh well, one more project for my Too Long To Do List. LOL. Tho when I get to Michaels, I'll get the tree form at least. I hope they still have white pumpkins since I've not been able to go this week to their sale.
Crafty, I think it was on GJ site but I do check others occasionally like Trash to Treasure and the Craft one. So who knows where I saw these trees. My notes need notes.

Okay, Jenn, I don't think I've ever seen your Shabby Chic style tree. Where do I need to visit on your web site to see it? Sounds like something I'd really love to see. ;o)

Hi Luvs!- I put a link for my little Shabby-ish tree at the bottom of the message.

I keep it in my guest room which has some Shabby Chic bedding in it and cottage/Shabby-type things.

You guys are getting me all excited for Christmas decorations now-- and that's not RIGHT! Too soon! Too Soon!! :-)
