Bath tub Gripes
Comments (17)The last time I took a bath, I think I filled the tub with about 6 inches of water. BIG mistake! When this whale-size fanny sat down, it caused a tidal wave of the Perfect Storm proportions! Our fiberglass tub was so uncomfortable, I think I got more kinks in my neck from the bath. When it was time to get out, I had the presence of mind to let out the water ... what little water was left in the tub! I don't remember how I got out. I tend to block out traumatic experiences. I don't think I could even get into a claw foot tub now! I have trouble lifting my Bozo The Clown-size feet into a small tub. My favorite thing is to sit on my shower bench, put my shower head with the long hose on fire hose setting and just massage my shoulders, arms, legs and feet with it. I have been known to fall asleep in the shower as a result of it. But then ... I fall asleep at my computer at work so that doesn't mean much! Thanks for the hilarious story, toomuch. Luckily Bob is asleep and not giving me strange looks for laughing out loud....See MoreGlass doors vs. shower curtain over a whirlpool tub
Comments (2)Handshowers that come with Roman tub faucets are not for use in a shower situation with a drop in tub. They are for cleaning the tub or rinsing shampoo out of the hair of a seated bather. If you wanted a tub/shower unit, you would have needed to have designed the installation as such from the beginning and used a tub that was designed with an integral tile flange and then used a wall mounted tub/shower type of faucet instead of a deck mounted Roman tub faucet. Those tub/shower types of whirlpools are usually designed for alcove installation where a glass door can work with them just fine. But, since you've already put in what you have, the only way to use safely such a tub as a shower without setting yourself up for a lot of water damage is to do a "ring" shower curtain like you would for the old fashioned claw foot tubs. It's basically a rectangular suspended curtain rod that you use shower curtains with. A glass door of any variety will not work in your situation, as it will not keep the water off of the tub deck and walls, which is the big danger with using a drop in tub in such a situation. The water that splashes on to the walls and deck has no way to drain back into the tub because the lip of the drop in interferes. The water has to go somewhere, and that usually is your floor or into the walls and deck surround. This makes for a nasty moldy rotten mess in a few years....See MorePlease suggest a good set of tub shower doors for a kids' bath
Comments (8)We went to a couple box construction stores and told them what size we were looking for. The custom made to order ones seemed perfect, but they wanted a perfect price too. Each store had an off the shelf option and the MAXX option looked more like the custom, but a fraction of the price. The other brand (sorry I forgot) had a frame around the opening that I didn't care for aesthetically. We found one that we could afford and looked alright, so I quit looking for what other options might have been out there. We built a whole house, so by time it came to the shower I was all researched out :)....See MoreTub: Glass door or shower curtain?
Comments (6)I prefer a curtain. Easier to clean and with the right curtain, can look very classy indeed. Some of this will depend on the actual style of your bath, so if you'd like to drop in a photo of your actual bathtub, that would be cool. And as Mark pointed out, if one does need to bathe a toddler in one, a curtain is much more practical, so it will depend on if you foresee the need, or if you plan to sell in the near future, or if there's another appropriate toddler bathing spot in the house. The other thing I will note -- in one of the homes my parents had, the guest bath had a glass door. The crevices were a nuisance to clean. In fact, though my mother was a neatnik, there was always a tiny bit of bleah remaining......See Moreskuba
