Is your marble basketweave floor polished or honed?
Comments (2)jeanninepc99, thanks for the pic. I've seen it before and I love what you did to your bathroom...it's beautiful. Can you share with me where you purchased your tiles, especially the basketweave floor? Are the white mosaic pieces 1 1/8" x 2"? I'm looking for the wider version....See MoreHoned or Polished Marble? - Please help!
Comments (10)I have 2 bathrooms that are getting quite a bit of calacatta gold marble in them. I did a ton of research, I don't have any practical experience with them since the tiles aren't in yet. I'm also putting it on the floor (1'inch hex), shower walls, vanity tops. I guess I fell in love with it..... What I've learned is that the polished shows etching more than a honed finish will. I went with all honed because I noticed that my mother-in-law's polished marble bathroom has worn polish in concentrated, more heavily used areas. It's not that her stone is worn, just the polish. I think the polish just adds another layer of maintenance. I could be way off point though, since, again, I have NO experience with it yet. The polished floor mosaics looks so pretty with all the light reflecting off of them though! I thought about it myself but had already exhausted my courage and bravery by selecting marble in the first place....See MoreCarrera Marble Honed versus Polished
Comments (7)Our 15 X 16 addition consisting of 4 feet to our existing master bedroom (making it 15 X 19) along with the addition of a master bath (12 X 15)has been poured, piered, and framed (we have a raised house). The plumber is coming tomorrow and the electrician after that. We have changed the cathedral ceiling to a tray and have vaulted ceiling in master bath with 8' ceiling over enclosed shower, separate bathtub area and enclosed toilet room. I have been reading and learning from all of you over the past 6-8 weeks. Thank you so much for sharing your projects for all of us to be inspired by. It's about time to choose floor material, vanity tops, tub decking and tub skirt. We will have the Kohler cast iron Tea for Two tub and the Kohler cast iron Farmington sink. We will be using Delta faucets in the Orleans collection (bet you can't tell where we are from). Faucets in chrome and tub and sink in biscuit. I travatine for all surfaces or full body porcelain tile for floor, tub skirt, surround and splash with marble tops for the vanities. The shower enclosure will be in biscuit cultured marble (local amily owned company and they do very nice work. Any advice on those choices would be much appreciated. Thanks, Bonnie...See Morehoned or polished marble floor in master bath?
Comments (4)I have honed basket weave Calacutta marble in my master bath and polished dog bone marble tile in the guest bath. They are completely grippy based on the small size of the tiles and the grout. Large tiles are quite slippery unless they have a high COF. I opted for the honed in the master bath they are essentially pre-etched so any etching that occurs wouldn't be as noticeable. I also wanted a "softer" look so I opted for the honed. My guest bath really has very light use. The polished marble is really lovely in that context as it gleams versus the low level softness of the honed....See Morenycbluedevil
