need design ideas for small bathroom 6.5 X 8
Comments (21)I was asked on another thread to post a picture here of my bathroom as it's pretty small, 10 ft x 4ft 10. Some of the things we did to make the small design work: * made whole width of room the size of the shower * tiled to top of wall * used large format tiles in stacked pattern on walls * emphasized width using a horizontal glass accent * kept vanity unit small (24 x 16) * used large format floor tiles * kept colors simple and lines clean * we will also be using a frameless shower door, yet to be installed that will keep it all simple and open looking....See MoreShow me your shower bench and do you use it?
Comments (50)Patrick, even though our shower is of a decent size, I wanted the ability to completely remove/flip up which ever seat I finally chose, both for cleaning, and for space, should you not want to bang our knees on said corner bench if we became physically less adept. The bench I chose has stood up well, is warm when wet, not slippery, and is sturdy enough to use to stand on to change lightbulbs in the bathroom ceiling! I will say that originally I wanted a teak flip up bench/seat, but the costs were astronomical for the interior wall bracing, brackets, and teak seat. I'm of a heavier weight, and didn't want to pull the darn thing out of the wall, hence the extra bracing I refer to. The seat and brackets (stainless, and hinged brackets were what I was considering) were only going to be available to me from a boat building/marine grade store, and they saw me coming with my wallet open! As you've read, I finally just purchased a really nice, sturdy bench, which is perfect height for washing dogs, shaving human legs, and just sitting to towel dry hair etc after showering. Take your time, give this some thought, and realize that propping one's butt up on a slippery bit of granite should you choose it, gets old as you get old! :) I did use a cardboard box to generally get the idea of size and height I wanted for my bench...give it a try! Good luck with your project! You'll love the new shower, regardless of seating!...See MoreTub size for 5' x 8.5' bathroom
Comments (12)First question: Does the drain/faucet for the tub HAVE to be on the left wall? If it's possible to move it, I would suggest you consider having vanity next to tub, (Place faucet on right side), though I don't know if there are code requirements as to how close vanity can be to tub edge. I've seen lots on Houzz where they touch, but that may only be for soaker tubs. This would give you the opportunity to place toilet next to wall, which would let you position the toilet roll holder far enough forward to be comfortable. When they are installed on side of vanity, many people find it awkward to reach back... This also eliminates the issue of bathing right next to the toilet, and I find being right next to the wall, it offers more privacy too. We put in a pocket door, and I can't believe how much it opens up the small space. If you use a 28" door, it would be tight, but doable. We have 33.5" inches between wall and vanity for our toilet, I am a big gal and have no problems with this space. I would opt for 2 more inches in tub area over 2" in vanity. But check tub dimensions, it's surprising how much they vary, some 32" tubs may actually be smaller inside than some 30" tubs!...See MoreShow me your shower tile patterns
Comments (4)It's finished now, but only good shot I have of the pattern... that is how I broke up the pattern up the tall section of the wall: I really liked the one linked to below by codnuggets Here is a link that might be useful: Beautiful bathroom by codnuggets...See Moregabbythecat
