Main sink in island with the range behind - any issues?
Comments (14)I'm not a "layout master" as compared with some others in this forum who are just amazing. My opinion is that a 42" aisle would be a huge help, but it would still be a little tight. When you say 15-18" offset, do you mean that there is 15-18" between the end of the stove and the beginning of the sink? If so I think that would also really help. If you meant 15-18" with some of the sink behind some of the stove, I would consider that only a little help and still worry about the person at the sink tripping on the open oven door when they step backwards or getting the backs of their legs spattered if something accidentally dropped coming out of the oven. I had a tight space to work with and spent hours and hours over just this sort of thing. Something that others in this forum have mentioned is to actually use chalk and/or cardboard to layout where everything is going to be and then walk through it and simulate how you might be using the kitchen. I actually brought DW to site and had her walk behind me while I pretended to do tasks at several points to get a feeling of what the clearances would be like. Best wishes!!!...See MorePicture Window Behind Sink--Would You?
Comments (28)I have a big picture window behind my sink and I wouldn't trade it for anything! It's about 5 inches above counter, but when we reno I want to raise the countertops a couple of inches (I'm 5'9"). I'd love to bump it out 6 or 8 inches, but these windows were just installed a couple of years ago and I know there won't be budget for that. I'd also bring them down to the countertops, but that too won't be happening either. Windows behind the sink get splashed, but a quick swipe takes care of the worst of it. I climb up on the counter about once a month and give them a good wash and wipe. To my mind, that's a small price to pay for the enjoyment they give me everyday watching goofy golfers, blue herons, coyotes, foxes, ducks, geese, eagles, and hawks. Lauraxx, your plan sounds great--go for it!! I don't think you'll ever be sorry you put in that great window. Get low-e windows and you won't be bothered by heat coming through them. The low-e windows have made an amazing difference in our house....See More"Wall of Windows" behind kitchen sink - How do you meet NEC code?
Comments (19)I haven't got time to find a pic right now, but we put a 7' window over our main sink. I searched and found a 43" sink, and then placed the outlets in the window returns. It just makes the 24" rule on each side. The window returns are flared on a 45 degree angle to soften our thick walls. The inspector was vague about the outlets in the window returns, but they passed it OK. Found a pic- sort of. One outlet is hidden behind the coffee maker, the other one you can see through the glass container. You can see the concept in the other window, just to the right of the mixer....See Moreideas wanted for gap between Kitchen sink and window sill
Comments (3)You need a replacement sink. I'd suggest a Kohler 3942 depending on your dimensions. If that doesn't work a custom sink will, however countertop and sink replacement become cost effective alternatives in that budget range. Your wife is right. This is very unsanitary, will ruin your cabinet, and perfect bug habitat....See Moremorz8 - Washington Coast
