Custom external blower with a cylinder hood?
Comments (3)Yes, this is what I thought! Do those cylindrical hoods work? If I can fit them, I can try putting two Faber Cylindra hoods but each one is $1900 and (sort of) beyond my current budget. I have talked to many folks at kitchen design/appliance stores as well as paid an electrician for a consultation and nobody knew of a hood that could fit in that area. I'll try to post pix later today. But if anyone knows of a less expensive cylinder or square hood, please let me know! An installer will be here in two hours for a consultation and I need to show him some pix. TX!...See MoreThermador hood with Abbaka external blower
Comments (7)Why would they NOT work together? The blower attaches to the fan output on the hood whether hard wired or through a plug. The 3 speed controller would then send power to the fan blower. It's very basic electrical work. That being said, I had a Thermador hood in my last house and I could not stand the 3 position fan controller. It was never the right speed and very diificult to live with. If the walls are open I would consider installing a dimmer switch on the wall to control the blower. It is easier reach and modulate and will not get covered in grease....See MoreAdvice re kitchen hood with external blower; Fantech; Imperial Hoods

Comments (1)My Wolf hood has continuous control, but it was made for Wolf by Independent more than a decade ago so I don't know what the internal design is of this hood's controls. However, SubZero/Wolf answers their phone, and you should be able to ask them about compatibility of the hood vs. the candidate Broan blower. In other words, if the Wolf hood has a simple control circuit that the three speed control communicates settings to, than a standard Broan induction blower motor should be compatible. If the Wolf hood expects a multi-wound motor to interface with the control, then there would be a problem with the Broan blower motor interface. Without calling, there may be another way to investigate. If the recommended compatible Wolf blower (from Wolf's design catalog) is an induction motor with hot, neutral, and ground wires, as clarified from downloading its installation manual, then the similar Broan blower should work. It is likely that Broan supplied the recommended blower to Wolf, although its procurement spec might be different than the Broan branded blower....See MoreTonySak
