Advice needed on grout for marble hex floor tiles

Hi All,

I have a question regarding grout color for my bathroom floor tiles.

I have completed installing white subway wall tiles with a glass mosaic border in a bathroom in my home. For these tiles, I used Delorean Gray grout - it turned out to be darker than I'd hoped for, but I am just going to live with it.

I have now begun to install 2" cararra marble hex floor tiles. I was planning to use the Delorean Gray on the floor as well, but I am re-thinking this because of how dark the wall grout ended up.

My question is: Is it best to stick with the Delorean Gray grout to unify the walls/floor? Or should I go with a lighter gray grout on the floor tile? Would two different shades of grout look weird?

I really appreciate your advice, I've seen so many beautiful bathrooms of a similar style and am hoping you can help with my dilemma.

Although normally, I'd recommend going with a lighter shade of gray, I think to do that now would show a difference-- as in we tried this shade on the walls and didn't like it so we changed it for the floor.

I'd say you have one of two choices-- either score out the grout on the walls and redo it with a lighter shade (or you could use a grout colorant) and use the lighter shade for the floor,

OR

you could leave the walls as is, and use the delorean gray for the hex tile, as well.

Thanks, Bill.

I am going to stick with Delorean Gray for the floor. I think the color may be growing on me.

I may be seeking advice on grout colorants in the future if I feel strongly against the color when the project is complete.

I wish I would have seen the Tec "pearl" grout earlier. I went with something that has turned out too light - it isn't stark white but still more white than I like. The Tec "pearl" would have given me the extra beige "hue" that I wanted. That looks lovely. This picking out grout is no easy task. I didn't take it seriously enough. It dries lighter than I thought and my contractor only had questions - he didn't want to offer suggestions - I think he has been burned before. Oh well.

We were thinking the same thing. We are putting in a large niche & using the 12x24s for that as well. I love accent tiles, but I hate grout lines. We ultimately decided that we need to keep it low maintenance. I know that philosophy is not for everyone.

I have basketweave tiles in my bathroom - floor and shower floor as they are NOT slippery at all because of the grout. I love my floors :-). I absolutely didn't want anything slippery when I remodeled as I had 12" x 12" vinyl tiles in my pre-remodel bathroom and any bit of damp made them slippery. I rented an apartment during my remodel and the shower had 12" x 12" marble tiles in the shower and on the bathroom floor. I considered that to be the bathroom of death because it was so slippery that I was afraid to move my feet while showering and had to make sure I never touched the surface of the floor after a shower. Since you are rightfully concerned with safety do not neglect GRAB BARS. These need to be installed when you are constructing the bathroom as they have to be attached to the studs for safety so they don't pull out when used. They have styles now that aren't institutional looking - mine are oiled rubbed bronze to match the rest of my fixtures. I really like having that extra bit of security even though the shower floor itself is NOT slippery with the small marble tiles.
