Orange/white and a little fun for the kids table & cc

After a busy busy week with the DH being on vacation , he's returned to work and I can get back to "normal" and the fun stuff... lol

I have the neices coming for an evening visit later in the week so set up something quick ,simple and fun for them.

This coming after the little one (age 8) came into the house once last year before I had redone the table and horridly exclaimed "You mean the table is wood?!"...LOL I've done tables most of her life so it must have shocked her to know what was actually under all the stuff.

I wanted to keep it carefree so if they break something , I won't be to sad (the little one is a.d.h.d. and not very careful sometimes).

The gems will give her something to touch and amuse herself with without harming anything. The flower shaped chargers are geared for the older one.

The candles of course won't be lit and the glassware is $$store and the vase I spray painted to go with the color scheme.

For the c.c. I wanted to do something a little more for their age as opposed to just dishes/glassware and they both love animals so I hauled out the collection and added a few flowers for a punch of color and the white/wood pieces to balance it all out.

MM, anyone [young or young at heart] would love sitting at this table.
It is so bright and cheerful and summery.
I love the orange vase and flower shaped chargers.
Once again you did a fabulous job with the china cabinet.
I think the owls are terrific.
I'm so glad you are back sharing your tables with us!

That will be a great table for all of the kids...so much to look at and play with and no one will get hurt and things won't get broken. Great idea...have fun!

Jeanne, our snow is almost gone and it's raining here today. I know we will have more but sure got me out of the snow mode for the moment. I have alot of lillies in our beds and love all of them. They are a favorite flower of mine. I can hardly wait to see your blue & white winter ts with your new dishes. Are these something totally new or did you add to your existing set? Glad they arrive ok. I love winter ts but was ready to do something different. The glasses have the mirror finish on them. Love the little votives and will put a couple sets of candleabras like that on my Bday list.lol Luvs, hope you find time to make some sundae cups this year. They are so cute. Dream, do you remember what kind of paint you used on your chargers? DH had to use the plastic paint and then spray the color to keep them from krackling. BTW I have a new beautiful set of pale gr chg. drying right now. I'm loving this color and excited to use them for a Spring ts. I also set out yellow, blue, purple, pink and a forest gr for DH to paint. We r having way to much fun today with these. I found that runner on Etsy a few weeks ago. Its reversible for Christmas. Very dark green with tiny cardinals all over it. The 2 plates and leaf bowl were Dollar store purchases that I bought to play with. Then forgot I had them till I was packing stuff last night! LOL, and after looking at my photo again...THIS is why I don't do tablesettings! I mean who the heck forgets stuff like silverware and glasses??? Jeeez. I even have a charger that was to go under the orange plate. Oh well, my "meant to do" was really a lot better than my "did". My advice to y'all is do not set tables at 11pm, after a busy day. Especially if you don't have a clue. LOL. I have to say I am quite pleased with my center-piece tho. Back to working on Christmas decorations. My DH hauled about 20 bins out of the storeroom, I have another couple in the garage, and then a huge linen closet that is my "Christmas closet". I am feeling rather overwhelmed already and barely started. I may be repacking a lot this year, not sure my legs and back are going to hold up to get things done the way I want. Darn it. I'm feeling quite bummed actually, but I know when I drop in here my spirits will be automatically lifted. hugs, Karen

Lpink: This sounds like a fun AND commendable project! What ages are the kids? I always felt like the younger ones are more willing to at least try things once! Some things I found with 4 kids of my own. They'll eat almost anything they 'make' themselves. Burritos, salads, tacos, etc. Choices of WHICH veggie rather than "do you want a veggie" is much more effective. What they like this week may not be the same as what they like next week! LOL Not only do their tastebuds change, but it sometimes depends on what their friends said.... Taste tests sound like a good way to go. You could have decide WHICH peppers to plant. WHICH tomatoes? WHAT greens? Not IF, but taste to determine the variety! Also, challenges work well. If one of my kids challenged another to eat something (they thought) they didn't like, you can bet your bottom dollar they'd do it!! Games: Carry cherry tomatoes in a spoon across a finish line and eat it. Give spoon to next person...etc. Comparisons: Do you like corn or green beans better? Green beans or beets? What is your favorite veggie? They get to vote for one (or two), see which veggie comes out on top! Do bell peppers taste better cut into large or small chunks? Are green beans better cooked or raw? Beets: Pickled or plain? They have to try them to answer the questions!! They may just do it without stopping to think about it! If you have a variety of foods, preparation, colors and activities (hands ON!!) you can probably get them involved! Deanna

Ha ha! Whit, I've been super stressed the last few weeks getting everything accomplished before we left for Cali last Saturday. Then having trouble with WordPress while trying to write my article Monday finished me off. I was a total wreck, so doing your virtual yesterday was fun. I was so exhausted that I didn't get out of my jammies yesterday until it was time to get ready to get dinner. Normally I'm up and dressed within minutes. So as you might imagine, my brain was just not functioning well enough to get the DW as Dear Wife right away. Your nieces will love it and so nice that it is kid proof!

How delightful. Know the girls will love it all. You are a terrific auntie to visit, creating special memories for them.

I cracked up over the story about the little one exclaiming the table was WOOD. Too funny.

Oh, I love your owls. They are pretty ones. I really like owls and seeing them in decor.

Very pretty and fun too. Amazing how you came up with such cute decor for the china cabinet too. Would love it if you could share some of the comments from the kids. Did they realize you did all this just for them? Too funny about the "wood table". LOL

The loved the gems and the owls and especially the grilled cheese sammiches shaped like dinosaurs. LOL

MM...what a fun table to be 'entertained' at! You really put some nice thought into it...making it very colorful and age appropriate...adding the little gems and even thinking of an animal theme for the CC!! Love it.
I'm glad they enjoyed themselves knowing this was just for 'them'..along with yummy grilled cheese!!
