I have the same problem in my KA ref, just like yours. KA will not do anything about it. I had them out 3 times prior to the end of warranty and the problem was never fixed. It occurred again after the warranty was out. You guessed it. It's now my problem.The problem with mine, I figured out, is the pressure from the water filter is not great enough when the filter gets old. The fill tube (black tube in freezer) freezes up. I have taken the filter cartridge out and for the last year have had no problem. Our municipal water is very good where I live so I am not worried about quality issues. I would use a better inline filter on my water line if I were concerned. On my first service call, the tech did say that KA had repaired "hundreds" of these units like this. Unfortunately the "like this" that he did to my unit did not work. I am planning a buildout on my garden level that will include a snack bar which will have a ref. That unit will not be a KA.

Find out where the connection is on the fridge. Most I've seen are bottom right (as viewed from the front. You don't need a lot of space. I think I have about an inch or so at the back. What you DO need to allow for is extra piping so you can pull the unit out from the wall. Usually you just make a coil behind the unit between it and the wall. The shutoff should be somewhere convenient. Mine happens to be where the water line is tapped off from the main cold water line. My parents came up through the floor from the crawlspace below.

I have to third this opinion. While it doesn't look bad...the point of the paneled refrigerator is to make it blend in. With an icemaker, the point is kind of lost. I personally dont care for the three different sized panels (or 4) you end up with, and the fact that it is off-center from the over the fridge cabinet as well. While I love paneled fridges and dishwashers, I feel that you might as well have a good looking conventional fridge or dishwasher if something is going to keep it from blending in anyway, eg icemaker, obtrusive controls or trim.

Freezer bowl must be well FROZEN. One of the first things I did when I arrived at my summer home last week was place the bowl (have the same ice cream maker that was on sale at Kohl's) in the freezer, BUT I had forgotten freezer was turned to low during the off season. My daughter checks the house but doesn't need the freezer. Well after 24 hours I went to make us ice cream; mixing instant chocolate pudding and cup of heavy cream and 2 cups of half and half. Have made this many times it's like a fudgecicle, OOPS! very cold rich chocolate "milk", but I froze the "non ice cream" anyway, did freeze well and tasted great, just not "ice cream". Yesterday with the freezer now turned up and the bowl well frozen I used 1 cup lactose free chocolate milk 1 cup heavy cream and had a very nice soft serve ice cream. Since homemade ice cream made with out alot heavy cream seems to freeze very solid, (something about this type of machine not mixing in a lot of air) I place the ice cream in single serving containers and freeze that way instead of making one large container. There are many recipes on the web for homemade ice cream. If you missplace your booklet from your Crusinart ice cream maker I also found that one on line.
