90% TS tablescape

Sorry, I have been absent. Busy summer, hosted big family reunion, GK's over,....

So, I took my Mom on a TS spree as part of our shopping day together for her B-day., and found these floral dishes at GW. Senior discount 25% so 4 plates, 4 bowls and 4 salad plates for .....$4.41 for all!!! I love them, couldn't wait to get home and create a tablescape with them.

The tablecloth, dishes, napkins, candle-ring for centerpiece, floral ball for centerpiece, compote for centerpiece, flower pot placecard holders, and the bird and floral candleholders were all from TS's.

The goblets were from DT, $1 each.

The rose patterned silverware came from my DH mother (who died long before I met him) and is the only element that wasn't some kind of a deal. Hence, the 90%.

The salad plates all have a different floral design.

The round cream chargers were from a YS and were $1 each and the scalloped ones were from the same GW trip and were 1/2 off, so they were $ .50 each, SCORE!

The sun was shining in from the skylights, so I apologize for the quality of the photo, but I was so excited to show off my GW finds!!

The funny thing is my Mom likes to go TS shopping with me, but doesn't like to buy "second hand." She loves helping me find items, but doesn't want used things for herself. Maybe because she was a child during the depression. I, on the other hand, love treasure shopping and almost never walk out of a TS empty handed.

I have a number of other treasures, but will have to share them later.

Those dishes are lovely and they go so well with your other things. The price didn't hurt either. Thanks for the pix.

Beautiful table. Those new dishes are so pretty. What do TS, GW and DT mean? I'd like to find bargains like that! The soft, muted colors are lovely and can be used year-round. Good finds!!!!

MM: thanks! You have a Solare dish set, too? You'll have to show me your set someday. These were the first set of square dishes I've bought. They're nice, but I can see that this shape is a lot easier to chip. I like round plates better overall, I think. OA: good idea about moving the floating flower bowl to the the middle of the table. I'll do that this evening for DD. She'll love it! As for the napkins rings, thanks! I was frustrated with the limited supply of different ones available and for the price they were charging for them. I just figured that there had to be a cheaper more creative way to get what I wanted. Lucky, thank you. Indian food is good, but I couldn't eat it often; it's too spicy for me. Karen: "India" sounds like a great name for my deer . . . thanks! I like thinking out of the box when it comes to decorating . . . and I LOVE saving money wherever I can! Now that I've made the leap to creating my own napkin rings, the possibilities are exciting to think about. Punk, Using the lily bowl for another, totally different tablescape is a great idea . . . thanks! Emily will love it, I know! As for my Solare dishes, I'm always amazed at how well they work with different tablescapes. Luvs: Thank you :~) This forum has helped me so much when it comes to creating tablescapes. Thanks frou, punk, jane, PM, LG, MM & Mo... Supper is over & now just the centerpc is there...moved the tall pitcher out also...looks good & Spring-y with girl planter, yellow vase & potted plant, bee skeps & wicker charger. LOL, MM, because DH did sit at table last night...just for my benefit, I think! (recliner diner's, ya know!) Wonderful that you have your Mom's old table! The bee skeps are a buy some yrs ago...I think maybe "Tenderhearts" product...they are made of some type of rope material & glue. punk...out that right window is a huge bird waterer...it is covered right now until last frost ...probably end of this mo. I'll ck for a pic...it's my porch garden & it's a lovely view later on in the season...with bird feeder & such! Thanks for asking! I do love those new Sango dishes...they're smaller & we've used them alot...with g'kids visiting last wk, too...plus sit more at a table then also! Thanks, everyone! Fiddlesticks, I wrote a response, and tried to make a correction, and the whole thing disappeared. :( MM, I'm a hands-on learner, so getting the picture posting via written directions was a challenge. I think I have it now. Jane, the silver candlesticks are decades old. I found a larger pair that are just as vintage looking at the TS a few weeks ago, but they were too large for this table. The silver chargers (actually aluminum) were only $1 ea at the HL 90% off sale a couple of weeks ago, but, big bummer, they only had 7. Just another reason to go shopping...Oh wait, I don't need a reason. I'm a big believer in Retail Therapy!!LOL Shopping, thats all I need, no wait, shopping and shoes, thats all I need, no wait, shopping, shoes, and chocolate, thats all I need...You get the idea. You might recognize the green salad plates from the bunny dishes posting. They also seemed to go well with this setting. Candy, I bought the butterflies for Shalayne's BDay party last year at Walmart. The placemats came from Target. The rose napkins were so easy. Not sure why I haven't tried them before.lol Little Debbie's has the cutest cakes for every occasion. Such a cheap way to add to our tables. This is the only picture that's up close of TJ. The poor little thing didn't get center stage for the photo shot this time. BTW, thanks for asking. Jeanne, while browsing one day I had read that this lady came up with a great way to remove the tarnish from her silver. She used 2 tsp of soda, one tsp salt and put this in a bowl lined with aluminum foil. Added boiling water and dipped her silver. I did this with mine. It removes most of it instantly. Then I used my Wrights Silver Cream to finish the stubborn areas. I had to change my foil and water solution a few times to get all of mine done. Seems like the hot water mix and new foil was the trick. Just when you thought I was done with the surprises, OH NO, I needed more bling so threw in the Butterlies!LOL Nana, after spending the last few days packing, makes me realize I have way to much fun shopping for my ts. I thought of you and need to get those pink zebra charges heading your way! Maybe when I bring them back in, I'll GET ER DONE! That is lovely, and what great bargains. I don't mind second hand at all! It goes in the dishwasher, so it is clean as a plate from a restaurant, prob cleaner! :)

Candy, those dishes are GORGEOUS! I can't believe you got them so cheaply. For that matter I've not seen anything
as beautiful at GW here. WOW. And your tablesetting looks so elegant.. and Victorian almost to me. Which I LOVE. I noticed your pretty napkins right off, and how you folded
them!!

Cute story about your Mom wanting to thrift shop but not actually buy herself stuff. Works out perfect for you two!

I had a friend some years ago that was mortified anyone would buy second-hand stuff. She acted as if dishes, linens, or clothes would spread the plague if they got near her. I had to laugh tho, as she traveled constantly, and I asked her just how many people did she think used the hotels' linens over and over. Same for restaurant dishes. Poor Woman, I don't she'd ever thought about THAT before. LOL.

Bonnie...DT is Dollar Tree, GW is Goodwill, and TS is for other thrift stores.

Candy, what fabulous dishes! And the price was fantastic. I love rose dishes, and think it is so fun that each of your salad plates has a different rose. What a good deal on those nice chargers too. Those little place card holders are so sweet, and your centerpiece turned out really nice. I think you have a knack for putting things together in a beautiful way! ;o) Know your Mom loved spending time with you and helping you find lots of "pretties".

Our Goodwill stores have gotten so high--your dishes would have been $14.99 or higher at ours--which still would have been a bargain, but not nearly as good as what you got!

Candy, your table is absolutely gorgeous! I'm positively green with envy over those beautiful dishes. I NEVER find anything like that at our TS or GW. What a treasure you found!

Do you know the name of the pattern of the dishes? I love how you have the napkins placed on the table. Exactly how did you fold them? They are so pretty.

Candy, your table is beautiful! I have friends who can't believe what I find at TS s.My DD always says "Mom, you find the neaatest things! I can't ever find anythiing but junk" I tell her that she has to train her eyes to look past the junk and to even consider that things can be used for things other that the intended use.Things always look 100% better after you get them home and cleaned up and out of the rest of the junk. It doesn't bother me at all that someone else enjoyed (Or not?)something before me. If it did I would never eat out again! Love "treasure shoping"! Janet

Candy...you got a steal on those dishes...they are very lovely ...those senior discounts are good for something! What a charming way to spend your Mom's b'day & hope you send her pics of your t'scape...it is so elegant!

I love how you used florals to create such a relaxing mood.. the centerpc, card holders, candles & linens, so pretty. Plus the other 10% (rose silverware) is downright lovely...a nice memory from your DH's mother. TFS! Jeanne S.

Hi Ya'll,
Went to my DB home yesterday for Mom's B-day party. Gone all day as he lives an hour away and then went to DH's great niece's 1st b-day party. I'm partied out!
My DB has a huge place and has built a tree house with a zip line out of it for my GK's, (he doesn't have any yet) and my mom, now 79, went on the zip line!! Go great granny!!

Kathleen and Janet, My thoughts exactly! Once they have gone through the dishwasher or the laundry for the linens, I am perfectly fine with them.

OA, I am mostly a TS junkie as the YS around here are usually F & S when I am playing golf, although I manage to hit a few if I happen to see them on my way home.

Party Music and Luvs, GW here prices the dishes and glassware at .49c a piece unless they have a sticker on them. Sometimes, they will tape a set together and price them for the entire set, but they are usually still reasonable. They had a set of 8 dinner plates with a lighthouse motif for $3.99, but it would have required me to start collecting lighthouses, so I didn't get them. LOL

Karen, thanks for helping with the abbreviations while I was partying!

Dream Goddess, the pattern on the back is:
Cheri Blum for 222 Fifth, Rose Bouquets.
The names on the plates are: rose, blanche, paix, and jaune. I think that is French?
The napkins are folded in half diagonally with the triangle pointing to the right, then hold the center of the long side with your thumb and finger of the left hand, and bring the top corner down and slighly to the side of the bottom corner, repeat with the top corner again and you get the 3 points. then just adjust until you have the look you want.

Jeanne, it was a lovely day w/DM and after the TS's, we had lunch at a tea shoppe, and then went to a "real store" to buy her some new clothes for her present, and then to D S W because we are both shoe-aholics. She does not have a computer but lives close enough to come see the table. She loves the experience of spending the day together and considers the shopping trip part of her present.

Candy, you big party girl, LOL...sounds like a lot of fun.
Especially your 79 yr old Mom coming down a zip line! I know I'd LOVE that lady!! Wish you'd gotten photos, I bet it great fun to watch her do that. What a special Mom you must have to do things with.

Thanks for the napkin folding instructions. I might have to try that sometime when I play with one of my Table for Ones to share here. ;o)

TS shopping is my kind of 'Fun' too.
Your table is so lovely with those dishes and the price you got them for, makes it even more so!
