induction vs. gas cooktop
Comments (21)As someone who will never, ever use anything but gas, I must say that induction sounds pretty good. It sounds like the right choice for many people. I've told friends to consider induction for their kitchens, and told them what I know about the technology. When we put in an in-law suite downstairs, I would like to use induction. My preference for gas in my kitchen is for reasons that are quite idiosyncratic. Most of my cookware is French copper. I like round bottom woks. And I want more heat than I can get from either an induction hob or a residential gas cooktop (but I can get it from a commercial gas cooktop . . . ) Finally, the advantages of induction just happen to be not that important to me - I don't care about a spotless cooktop, I'm not nervous about heat or open flame, and I don't get too warm from cooking with gas....See MoreDecision Time: induction range vs. induction cooktop with oven below
Comments (30)dsgulbas, are you arguing that Wolf is a commercial quality range??? I hope you understand that the Wolf commercial range company is NOT the one you are advocating. The Wolf brand name was purchased by a refrigeration company that has never produced a commercial range. The original Wolf stove company operates out of California and produces commercial stoves but has no relationship whatsoever to SubZero. Here is their website: http://www.wolfequipment.com/Wolf/Products/subcat.aspx?brand=Wolf&cid=1&scid=38 SubZero/Wolf gas stoves are not commercial quality and don't even have open burners, they are very good stoves but first and foremost are prime examples of kitchen jewelery. SubZero/Wolf ranges may be heavy but they are not long lasting. Try to get a Wolf gas range porcelain oven interior fixed after the warranty expires and you'll soon find out they are essentially disposable items. Been there done that. I will never defend Samsung as I've had bad experiences with them too but I don't see Wolf being any more (or even as) reliable than GE, Electrolux, Bosch and a few others that are sold in less exclusive stores....See MoreNeed ideas for replacing cooktop - gas vs induction
Comments (18)@Patricia Colwell Consulting You're right I should have posted some photos of the space. There isn't much wiggle room and behind the cooktop there's only about an inch or so which isn't enough room for a pop up vent. The end goal is to replace the cooktop with either induction or gas and do as minimal reworking of the cabinets and venting as possible. Unfortunately it's not as simple as just replacing one-for-one. I wish it was! And of course, our relator told us it was simple when we bought this house. The cabinets aren't what I would choose if I was designing the kitchen but it works for now until we can redo the entire thing years down the road. These photos make the room appear quite yellow but that's just the light balance. Everything is white. The floor is more of a neutral brown. The cooktop is at the far end adjacent to the double oven. Behind that wall is the washer/dryer. Currently the GE electric cooktop has a downdraft blower built into the cooktop itself. It works great but I can't stand cooking with electric especially after having gas in our old house....See More36" Induction cooktop questions - Wolf vs. Bosch w/FlexInduction
Comments (40)@aspen75, I have that same griddle that I use on mine. I understand and experience what you are saying and it is a bit of a disappointment. However, it has never hindered my cooking abilities on it. I mainly use my griddle for fish, shrimp, or pancakes (DH sometimes uses it for squash and zucchini) and because the heat ends up dispersing throughout the griddle, I never have issues with the food I cook. Sometimes I might have to move my fish or shrimp around as it cooks, but it still cooks. I'm still very pleased with my Wolf and so glad I went with it over gas, which we had before and which definitely had far worse hotspots. I have not tried a cast iron griddle on mine because I like the ease of cleaning the one I do have. Plus, I have a Blackstone on my patio just off my kitchen and I use it a ton in the spring, summer, and fall when I truly need a griddle ;)...See Morejadeite
