why is it cheaper if I buy range vs the plumber buying it?

I went to an appliance store to get a price check on a GE Monogram rangetop. The front clerk asked if I was going to be buying it or if our plumber would be. I asked what the difference was, and she sort of whispered, saying that it was less expensive if I bought it instead of him.

Why would that be? It doesn't make sense unless it's the plumber adding on a fee for picking up the appliance--but it sounded like it was the store's pricing.

Thanks.
