I can't even get my "old" model (E522BLXFD) to be shipped on time--it's two weeks late; apparently my desire for a left hinge has thrown the entire F-P manufacturing process into disarray--so good luck finding one of the new ones.

The dimensions look a bit larger (ie, more 'American') than the previous models, which I think a lot of people will prefer.

I have the older model F&P and would love to know if the new model makes the same sounds. Doesn't really bother me ... but it never seems to the make the same sound twice. (I will say, I love the shelf layout in the frig!)

@ZacsDaddy, it does look like the compressor design has changed significantly, based on the spec sheet---so it might well make different noises...we may end up being guinea pigs to find out! ;) We loved the shelf layout too (and also the ice tray shelf in the freezer), so hopefully that's unchanged. I don't want to order one until our local store gets a floor model and I can see it in real life, though, so may have to wait it out. Ah, well---our current fridge is still trucking along, so we have some time.

@segesta, I wonder if they are planning to eventually discontinue the old ones (seems odd to have two sets that are so similar) and that could be part of the hangup, if stock is low?

My analysis of the situation is that F-P are careless goofballs (my first refrigerator was destroyed in shipping), as opposed to me being a victim of some kind of finely tuned supply chain.

Artemis, you helped me so much around this time last year, when I was considering the F&P fridges, too! Thank you.

We, too, put off buying the fridge until we'd saved up more money. Now I am ready to order the french door RF201ADUX model, but lo and behold, there's a new model on the market. The RF195ADUX1 looks almost exactly the same but is $200 more expensive, and it's not clear what I'd be getting for the extra money. The newer model actually has .8 cu.ft less storage space in the fridge section (14.6 versus 13.8) so it seems like I'd be getting less.

I have to decide by tomorrow because the only place I can buy it from -- the only store in this area that will replace the fridge if it's damaged during delivery -- has just one older model left in stock and F&P won't accept orders for it anymore. Should I buy the new one or the old one? Does anyone know what is better about the new one?

You never have to decide by tomorrow. Don't rush into an expensive purchase on a product you are unfamiliar with. Believe me, FP will manufacture more.

Also: My E522BLXFD finally was delivered and it looks great. Despite some interesting sounds, it is FAR quieter than my old KitchenAid, so overall the 'sound issue' isn't a problem for me.

I have the old model and as for noise, it isn't loud, just different from the sounds of other refrigerators. I am amazed at how much it can hold. 3 years and no problems.

Well, for me the fact that it's energy star rated (although I realize that's basically a gimmick) and the fact that it's more of a true counter depth fridge than the old one, but those may not matter at all to you.

Writersblock, what do you mean it's more of a true counter depth? I thought they were the same depth - at least that's what the specs say (for the french door models).

Oh, sorry, I meant the single door model, but I see you're right. I'd been going by the dimensions/clearances as given on ajmadison, but they were wrong, according to the F&P site.

I ordered the old version today (RF201ADUX). It was the last one in stock! I figured, why pay more for less space? It's coming Saturday; I'm so excited!

Any more comment about the RF195ADUX1 model? I've been reading it can be loud. Would love to hear from those who have this model?

Oh, I love that this thread has been resurrected--we still (still!) haven't bought ours, and it looks like our old fridge is about to give up the ghost so I need to figure out what the french door favorites are these days. Anyone have any recent experience with F&P fridges? We are looking at RF201ADX5.
