Does anyone polish silver any more?
Comments (101)Up until 12 years ago I worked in the food service industry, so I have lots of silver plate flatware. Once I was in the upper closet of a Sheraton where I worked and found boxes of Oneida Silver Plated Hotel Flatware, asked the GM about it, and he said take it,it was enough for 100 place settings! I have other boxes of sets of 12 or 24 settings that were given to me by GM's when cleaning out closets. I like the hotel silverplate, it's heavy and the knife handles are solid. The spoons get a tad yellow and I just wipe with Wrights Silver Polish. That's is my everyday stuff. As for cleaning in the dishwasher, thinking back I would have to say it takes about 30 years or so to toss the silverplated flatware washed in a dishwasher. Have to admit I am anal about the baskets in the dishwasher, being trained to put the knife blades down so not to poke yourself getting out, separate the spoons, forks and serving and utility in separate baskets. The Sterling set, I hand wash, it's sentimental. When I was a very young girl our family had a contract for vending machine sandwiches. On the bread bags there was a coupon on the side to cut out and redeem for sterling flatware. They would save all the bags for when my Grammie came to visit in the summer and she and I would sit and cut out the coupons. I still remeber bead crumbs and plastic sticking to me, lol. I would have to look but I think we cut enough coupons for a set for 24. Sterling doesn't tarnish as fast as plated, I keep mine is a chest with silver cloth, takes no time at all to shine up. Linda, I think the set you have is the same as what my Mom had, sure looks like it from the pic. I wish my cutlery was as wide as yours....See MoreDS has mono......
Comments (4)Hi Silver, The nurse said he wasn't suppose to do anything physical for 4 weeks. They didn't say anything else. He started out with the flu and that went into bronchitis and then the ear infection and sore throat that he has now so I had him tested for mono and bingo! My DD20 had it at this age too. Life is wonderful! My DH said he had it as a kid and had a mild case but a friend had it and it lasted 6 months. Maybe he'll listen to me now about burning the candle at both ends....poor kid....See MoreRecommendations for flatware?
Comments (69)I thought replacing my 27 yr old Reed and Barton flatware wouldn't be more complicated that choosing a pattern! When I began to read negative reviews of the "better name" manufacturers, I started to research and it brought me to this thread. Now I get it. I agree with another poster here who said many who have been thoroughly happy with their flatware purchased it many years ago, BEFORE outsourcing and recycled materials became an issue. No, offense, but the patterns offered by Revolution are not my style. My thoughts going into this were "don't go cheap, stick to 18/10 from a reputable name and you will be pleased" Now, I'm not so sure that holds true! At this point, I would rather pay a little for a set that will get rust spots and discolor than pay A LOT for a set that does the same. Does anyone know if countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea are known to produce a better quality of steel than China?...See MoreYour Everyday Flatware?
Comments (38)I have never seen the flatware with the bees before! Glasses, dishes, linens, but never flatware. Marie_cate, I have a similar amount of the Monet after 12 place settings not being enough of the Nouveau. I started out thinking I would just get some additional place settings for the times we needed them and found 4 pl setting set of the Monet at HomeGoods. When I verified my suspicion that it was a discontinued pattern, I set to work and found more. I think I also have 24 pl setting and I got iced tea spoons, serving pieces, extra teaspoons and even cocktail forks. I knew I had one chance, so I loaded up. LOL Does anyone here have Reed & Barton stainless pattern with a shell at the end of the handle? That was my mom & dad's stainless and my youngest son has it now. I don't know the pattern name....See MoreRelated Professionals
