Found some more TS dishes at GW.

The purple Lotus Poppytrail dishes were .37 ea piece. When I googled them, they sell for LOTS MORE!!

I found the Crate and Barrel Popcorn set for $4.50 for the set.

Good thing I have a basement!!

Candy, great finds! I love the lotus dishes, esp. and I passed on a pop corn set awhile back, just because of storage issues. Like I just told Jane, I am envious of anyone with a basement. Great "treasures" and I think Candy dish would fit, too, Janet

WOW! Spring-y purple dishes! BEAUTIFUL! What a bargain $$$! And the popcorn set, too! You did good! My organizational skills have gone to pot (since joining this forum!) I'm trying...but space...at least this Old Mother Hubbard's cupboards aren't bare!!! TFS, candy-dishish! Jeanne S.

I think the three kitchens are pretty equivalent in equipment. I'm assuming that out of sight in the first one is a full sized (30") Miele oven? It depends on what you want. Which has a bigger fridge, or if you like the freezer drawers in kitchen #1, whether the grille bothers you in kitchen #3, whether you'd rather have a separate cooktop and wall oven or a range. Which has more storage. Whether you like an open kitchen or a galley, etc. (Galleys are great to cook in, but don't have the social element that open kitchens do.) Which color you like best. Viking isn't in such good odor currently, but if it's there and it works it should be fine. The design is nice. The third apartment looks older and lived in, and not so well designed. More homestyle than architectural. I wouldn't throw over the third apartment just because it wasn't brand new, if the price, location, amenities and view were right, but the pot filler sitting like a navel in the middle of sheet stainless? Not pretty. Hm... Looking again, maybe it is a new kitchen. If so, it's a bit, um, yellow-beige. It might look a lot better in person. Also, in my opinion, a built in espresso maker is an attractive toy. If you have continental breakfast with cappuccino every morning, it's useful. If you only make espresso for twee little dinner parties, not so much. But considering the sizes of these kitchens, it doesn't waste enough space to get really mad about it. Keeping all the stainless in kitchen #2 spotless and smudge free, and the same for the gloss white in kitchen #1, might be a big problem if you don't have daily help. Especially in kitchen #2 if you allow people to sit at the island and their shoes hit the stainless. From that point of view, the bland kitchen #3 would be the easiest upkeep. In terms of quality, I think they're all in the range you're looking for, so the thing I'd really really check out, like bring a ventilation expert with you when you go see, is the hoods. Make sure they really vent to the exterior. See how much they really draw, find out where the exhaust exits and what your responsibility, vs. the board/association/freeholder or whatever, is for keeping it clear of nests and other maintenance is, and find out if the hood isn't adequate for you what you are or are not allowed to do to improve it. For instance, are you allowed inline blowers? (Is that a stupid question for an NY apartment? I've only been in NY for four days in my life and was baffled the whole time.) Oh. I guess that's an assumption, that you'll be able to see before buying? I know some people buy from abroad. Consider we're talking apartment in New York with big kitchen, however, my guess is this really is the equivalent to a house in Beverly Hills. In BH, people tweak their new spaces to suit themselves. This is why I think the ventilation is the most important thing. You're not likely going to be able to change the ductwork or anything like that, and it's probably not worth the money and hassel even if you could. The rest can be altered slightly. For instance, I agree with Rococogurl that putting in a Wolf rangetop would compromise the design of kitchen #1, but it would still look fine, and might be just the thing to make it less clinical. (And the Miele should be fine to cook on and keep the architecture intact.) As for the rest, I'd think those other things, like location, parking (if you have a car), amenities, rooms, bathrooms, location, storage, view, location, square footage, outdoor space/access and location, are more important than the specifics of the kitchen.

Sweeby, I could give you a big hug! I think you are absolutely right-- especially in my room, the table will fade into the background. In fact, I knew that all along but it never clicked-- that is why I didnt buy the French Heritage table I fell in love with last summer when Parma ordered hers. My room wouldnt do it justice.. it doesnt have the view or space to showcase it. What IS important to me is that the table is round and works well (rather than against) the other elements-- that explains why I am all over th place. Painted, copper, even mission tables have been on my list-- the only common threads are old/old looking, round, european-ish. Thank you .. I have more focus now and it really makes sense given my decision earlier today-- I am going to order the chandelier and maybe paint before I get the table. I think it will make a big difference and will give me time to decide on a table. I love the chairs with rush seats-- I could even use those with my current table. I dont see anything like them on our local CL but I will watch ebay and the consignment stores. (sorry if i am babbling and not making sense-- it's been a long day and I wanted to be sure to respond because your post was really helpful to me. )

Thanks for the feedback everyone! To those who suggested to paint the trim green: I never really thought of that as an option. The rest of the house has white trim. Would that one room look out of place? I'm not against it, but the work load is rather daunting. I should say that the 'inspiration' picture above was just for the book cases. These two are more of the whole-room feel I was going for: note: my curtains are more like these below (a more saturated color that doesn't show up in my pictures) To those who suggested new curtains: I really like the ones we have. They are much better looking (color wise) in person. And my DH loves them. :) And as much as I love patterns, I've never like them on curtains in my own house. kswl: Thanks for your thoughts on ticking. I've never used it - but people say it can be dressed up or dressed down. But your point about the shade of greens is spot on. I'll look into the fabrics/colors you suggested. Thanks everyone for your help!

I find that when you buy plants such as these, ones which are heavily cultivated and easy to grow and sell, you will find they are grown in a medium better suited to their plant type when they are first being grown. Once they have accumulated enough size, the grower which supplies them to department stores and garden centres will encase the roots in a more water retentive medium and send them on their way. This exterior medium, as I said, is more water retentive and prevents the roots from drying out and the plant dying off in transit/waiting to be sold. The thing with this type of medium is that it is not good for succulent type plants, require you plant to be repotted into a free draining mixture at some point. Sorry, but I'm not too sure when this will be, but you will want to try to remove a decent amount of the exterior medium when you do this to prevent the roots from rotting in the future. Candy, love the purple Lotus Poppytrail dishes. What a deal at .37 a piece. The popcorn set will be so cute set up for a night at the movies. I have a lg red & white popcorn bowl but never seem to use it. Thanks for sharing Ms Candydish!

Pretty Lotus dishes and such a lovely color.
Great price on the popcorn bowls..they'll be fun to use.

I think I've said this before, I've NEVER seen prices at my GW like yours. I often find something, and it's priced either the same or more than in a store! You're lucky, because you've got someone there who's a great pricer..

Candy, your dishes are beautiful. You are lucky to get such great prices. Our GW also has rather high prices so I rely on the thrift store and garage sales.

Once again you've found incredible bargains, and those purple dishes are really neat.
Like Jane, I've not seen prices so low at my GW. Even on half-off day!

Most of the Good Will stores in the Denver/Fort Collins area price dishes and glasses at .49c ea. When it is Senior Day on Mondays the discount is 25% which makes them .37c ea. and any other day seniors can get a 15% discount.
I just found out last week that the GW stores in Colorado Springs are completely different. Senior Day is Wed. and that is the only day there is a senior discount and they price all of their dishes/glasses differently. Apparently on how much the pricer thinks they might be worth.

That being said, sometimes the GW store thinks the dishes are more valuable and those are in a different area and more pricey than the others. Unless it is something I really want, I rarely buy those.

Since DH and I are usually playing golf on the weekends, I don't get to many garage sales, so TS's are my main source for bargains.

Oh I love the color and pattern of the lilac dishes!! What a great deal! DH has finished off most of the basement and it includes a home theatre with a 110" screen, a projector, comfortable seating and a popcorn machine! That popcorn set would be used a lot! I haven't been doing much other than work and gardening but I am feeling the pull of TS shopping so maybe I will get to one or two this weekend and see if I can find the deals on my end of town that you find Candydish!! :)

That purple is lovely and will be great for Spring and Summer. I really like that pattern too. I do have to say not only is everything you find reasonable, you find great things. Our GW has nothing but trash as far as dishes go. The TSs are a little better, but you have to check everyday to find anything good. At least here we all get to enjoy all your fab finds.

Back when I first found Gardenweb and the Garden Junk forum, I was finding plates and even pretty clear dishes for 50 cents to a dollar each. Now many of the plates are priced at $3.99! Can you believe that? Once in a great while, they go through and do some drastic markdowns--then some go down to as low as 85 cents, but they are not usually the ones I'd want even if free! LOL

Love the shade of lavender on your's and you even got service pieces too. Cute popcorn set--you might want to strike a bargain buy or swap with Kath for her new "theatre"!
