wet dog smell from newer dishwasher-
Comments (238)What a problem. Lots of opinions and suggestions here but no solution. No mention of contacting dishwasher manufacturers who must surely know about this issue. I contacted Neff in the UK for advice who suggested using a dishwasher cleaner every 30 cycles (every two weeks in or house of two people). Tried that in addition to my 15 min prewash in cold waterand soda crystals, often also with a squirt of bleach, followed by the 1 hr wash at 65C using Fairy Platinum plus (most expensive detergent ever?). Still some odour on wineglasses out of the cupboard next day. What I'm now doing is rinsing the wineglasses just at the end of the wash cycle under the boiling water tap. This works. Would love to hear a proper technical explanation ( and solution) from a scientist at a dishwashr manufacturer, but I won't be holdong my breath....See MoreDishwasher - dishes stink!
Comments (16)Since these new dishwashers has multiple prewash purges add 2 ounces of liquid bleach at the start of wash (make sure it's not Splash-less or It will suds up). The bleach will not effect the detergent during the main wash and will work well with most detergent pacs and you will notice the funk leaving all glassware. And BTW, turn off Sanitize when using bleach to save energy, high wash temp is recommend if water heater is set between 120* to 130*. I do this for about every load in my Kenmore since I had had this problem. If you are using Limi-shine pacs, an off smell will occur, Finish or Cascade will be OK. Detergent in the prewash in these new machine are a wasted since the prewash is not cycled long enough for justification because of the multible purges....See MoreMiele Dishwasher Bad Smell
Comments (76)Hi I had the same smell 2 years ago. It is rotten egg gas, the type of science experiment we annoyed our science teachers with. I had a Miele for 20 years and replacing it seemed logical after 20 problem free years. After going through all that everyone else has done with their smelly dishwashers i began my research into plastics, their interaction with chemicals and the results of the interaction with the components of dishwasher detergents. I came up with different kinds of polymers that are components of plastic. When certain polymers interact they give off rotten egg gas (Hydrogen sulphide). It stinks. Replacing the baskets stopped the odour, but the plastic water hole is another story. It is a haven for a fungus the likes of which I have never seen. Rinsing the filter after every wash is the only way out of that one. It is Miele's responsibility to have the components of their dishwashers manufactured under better quality control....See MoreRE: Bosch DW gives off funny smell after several days of non-use.
Comments (2)That makes a lot of sense. I replaced the Bosch after 2 weeks (the odor was one of the reasons) and everything had been done correctly. And I tried all the fixes the Bosch help line told me. Got a Kitchenaid in its place and not once has that happened. I got so tired of folks saying that I must be doing something wrong. Nice to be validated like this. I don't understand why others don't have the same odor. But maybe they just don't notice it like I did....See Morespanky_md
