If you don't want to use a rinse agent, you're probably going to have some trouble finding a modern dishwasher that will deliver satisfactory drying results. Nearly all modern reduced-energy dishwashers depend on rinse agents to aid in reducing spotting and to enhance rapid evaporation of water on the dishes . Have you tried using different brands? Consumers Reports says that nearly all new dishwashers perform well at getting dishes clean, provided that you use a modern ENZYME-based detergent and the machine is properly loaded. Enzymes will soften and dissolve all but the toughest burned-on crud. Older chlorine-based detergents are not nearly as effective. I'm not sure why deep bowls won't fit in a European machine. I have a Miele dishwasher and I'm quite positive that anything that will fit in an American brand dishwasher will fit in my Miele. I wash things in all sorts of shapes and sizes, including the electronic air filters from my furnace. All fit in just fine. As for quietness, not all machines are created equal. Generally, top-of-the-line machines are pretty quiet. Some more than others, but still quiet. Lower-end machines, however, don't come with much sound insulation so they can still be obtrusive when in use. When it comes to noise, you will get what you pay for.

Weve had issues with our new bosch dishwasher as well. First if all, the installation process is a pain-we had bought it to replace our old dishwasher which was fairly new but in order to install the bosch dishwasher, we had to have an electrician and plummer come to rewire and reroute/set up the water lines correctly for the thing to even run. Then we had issues with the power cord and had to have a technician come out and repair/fix that. I also hate how you cant control it/buttons arent accessible unless the door is open. There is inadequare space for dishes, doesnt effectively clean dishes even with high quality dish detergent, rinse aid, and meticulous placement of dishes. Lastly, its annoying how it gets stuck on auto and you have to reset the thing and rerun it just so you can switch to a different mode. I have used many different brands throughout my life-rented in my 20’s and early 30’s including whirpool and LG and never had issues.

Lowes sells a geat Bosch that I would have bought if I hadn't needed a panel ready model (was selling for $1079 -- don't know if that's in your range, but it would be very quiet and have most features you could want on it). The one I got is pretty similar in the features other than finish. I am still learning how to best load the third rack configuration (have run it about 4 times), but I am very happy with how quiet it is and how well it cleans. That isn't true about the adjustable tines on more than one rack. There are adjustable tines on top and bottom starting at least in the 800 series if not the 500 (I had a chart I found online that compareed all the models, but I can't find it again). The every-other tine fold down on part of the lower rack tines is something that is only offered on the Benchmark 9 and the Thermador Star Sapphire (I could be wrong about the Sapphire, but I think it is only the very top model in each line). There are also two different size tubs in the Bosch DWs. As I had it explained to me, the tall tub or Euro tub is the one in the Benchmark 9 and has a 14 place setting capacity. The Deep Tall Tub is the one with a 15 or 16 place setting capacity and the tines. The tub and the overall DW dimensions are 1-2 inches deeper than the other styles. The salesman called that the American tub and said the tines are spaced more widely apart.

zp99, I think as some others have said, I'd install a single drawer instead of the double as a second DW. You'd gain some cabinet/drawer space, and unless you really have a need to run 2 full-size DW's every week, I think it just makes more sense. We are installing a FP double integrated as our primary and only DW. I asked some questions about it in a POST a bit over a year ago, and at the end of the post is my review on what I felt I could fit inside. This was at the appliance store so of course I couldn't run it. Overwhelmingly, it seems those that have had them, love them. Having them installed properly seems to be paramount.
