Matching 'whites' with Kohler and Toto - help!!

I'm having trouble sorting out the "whites" from pictures online and need to order our toilet and under-mount sink.

The sink is going to be a Kohler, the toilet is a Toto.

So....

Toto: cotton, colonial white

Kohler: White or biscuit

Which are the best matches? Any pics would be great. Or just tell me what to do! I have no idea how to tell by looking online and what the sink and toilet to at least be compatible.

If it makes a difference, my trim color is a very creamy white. So I don't need a bright white toilet. Just a toilet that looks like white next to my trim.

This is WAY harder than it should be!

I totally agree as to why this should be so hard. Just tonight we got our bathtub refinished in "Kohler gloss white". It was pink. Now, it still doesn't match the "white" toilet or the "white" sink. Actually the "white" sink doesn't match either. So I have three different "whites" and now a bathroom that we have spent over $10,000.00 on looks unprofessional in my opinion because of all the different whites. The problem is also that we have to have a small round toilet (a white Aquasource which is American Standard is what we bought because it is only 26 inches deep)for the space and there are not a lot of choices out there for that. So what does a person do?

kohler biscuit equals toto sedona beige. kohler white is toto cotton.

I would call Toto and ask them if their white matches Kohler's white.

I just called St. Thomas and asked them if their white toliets match Kohler white (sink). And she said it did.

I started off wanting the Memoirs suite -- toilet, pedestal sink, the works -- but I ended up with the Toto Eco-Promenade with a round seat (and no Memoirs at all -- long story there). I have had no problems whatsoever with its performance in the four months that it's been installed; aesthetically, it fits the vintagey look that I wanted; my water bill has dropped (it replaced a 5 gallon water hog); and it has a relatively small footprint/bowl protrusion, which was important to me in a small bathroom. HTH. FWIW, here's a work in progress pic. The sink is a Kohler Archer, and the vanity is from RH. If there's a difference in whites, I can't see it in person, and you can't in the crummy lighting of this pic :) Blue

I only bought Toto toilets for my bath redos since my sinks were to be undermount in granite. My contractor did notice a large scratch on the side of one of the tanks similar to what you describe: under the glaze. He asked if we wanted to bring it back to the local dealer I got it through, but since it was (luckily) on the side facing the vanity, the shadows don't make it noticeable, and since we had only one working toilet at the time, we just accepted it. If the 6" long scratch was on the front of the tank, I would have taken it back. I noticed that both toilets were made in Indonesia. Let's hope Toto's quality won't be diluted by this global manufacturing.

What color TOTO white matches American Standard

Colonial white is supposed to match American Standard. You can email or call Toto and they'll send you color chips of cotton white and colonial white so you can compare for yourself. I just went through this deciding on how to match up a Toto toilet and bathtub with a Porcher sink (Porcher is owned by American Standard). For various reasons, I decided to stick with cotton white, but I think the colonial white was a slightly better match. I'm sure American Standard will send you a color chip too. It took Porcher a while to get my chip to me, but they eventually did. (I'm not so sure the chip actually matches the sink, but whatever. ;-))

Toto's Cotton White matches Kohler white. I can't get at my charts but IIRC Crane and Eljer whites also match Kohler White. American Standard will not match but as I have said in other posts, my tub, console sink, and toilet were from three different manufacturers and I was the only person to notice this (I asked pretty much everyone who saw the bathroom in the first few months, and I showed everyone who came to the house so I could brag on it! LOL), and I honestly forgot to notice except when I saw threads like this.

I believe Toto has this info on their web site. I have a Kohler tub in White and a Toto toilet in Cotton and I know I checked compatibility before I ordered these colors...

Thank you for your help everyone. I found a piece of info that said Colonial White= American Standard and Cotton=Kohler White. While my DH was getting some other things done at Lowes, I told him to look at the colors of American Standard and Kohler whites. He couldn't tell the difference. LOL. I'm sure I could because I agonize over such decisions, but if he couldn't at least he won't have an opinion about it!

Staceyneil - nice to see you on the forums again! My kitchen is still a work in progress, almost done and ready for pics to be posted. Just need backsplash and more hardware. How is yours coming along? So I guess I've moved on to stressing about bathrooms now! Yours looks AMAZING btw! Totally dream bathroom!

Thanks, repaintingagain! Can't wait to see your kitchen pics :)

Mine got stalled because we had this huge mold problem that necessitated gutting and re-doing the master bath. That took all our time and resources. So the kitchen isn't done yet :( I actually just put the backsplash in a couple weeks ago, but we still don't have toekicks, cabinet trim, or pantry doors. And we're broke now... so those things may be a while yet to complete. Someday I'll post finished pics, I hope!

Does anyone know if textured bath bottom in Kohler bath is still means it’s a glossy acrylic finish?
