Finished kids/guest bath (pics)

Still need to add plants and some art, but our last bathroom redo is mostly done!

Our second bath was in dire need of an update from its 1985 vintage. The house is contemporary, and because this is the kids/houseguest bath, I wanted clean lines and low maintenance materials. We have all polished nickel in our MB, but went with everything chrome in this one to save some $, and also I like the bling of chrome with this bath. We gutted and updated all the plumbing and electric, too. We kept the layout the same as it's worked well for us.

The floor and tub surround are a marble look, ceramic tile. Vanity is Omega-SoHo style (slab), countertop is Cambria engineered quartz (Fieldstone color), tile is a glass/carrera marble mosaic from glasstilehome.com. All faucetry is Grohe Europlus, Pulls are Amerock "Sleek", Medicine cabinets are Robern. Sconces are RH. The paint color looks better IRL, I can't get the picture to show it as blue/green as it is.

I love the niche! We used the same tile as the vanity backsplash, but turned it vertically.

vanity looking out: I love the pulls, so chunky and blingy. Busybee3, if you're out there, I went with your suggestion on knob placement, thanks!

Toilet. Not so interesting, but better function and much more water efficient.

Oh, and this is the mockup board I started with. We're happy with the result. Thanks again to all the contributors on this board, this is a great resource.

jillsee - thank you! It's actually a cheap-o Home Depot vanity/sink combo. This bathroom is not used a lot and we figured if our icky builder-grade cabinets lasted as long as they have, surely this would last awhile, too. :) I'm quite happy with the look and the whole thing has a pretty substantial feel to it, especially compared to what we had in there before. Plus, it was several inches less deep than the previous cabinet and really opens up the space a lot. When we re-do the master bath, we'll spring for higher quality cabinetry. But this vanity works really well for this space.

Thanks lori_inthenw for your kind words. No, I don't have any formal design training - just lots and lots of generous help from the forum and from the tile shop and cabinet maker (if you are in the SF Bay Area - PM me for the contact info). The designers really helped quite a bit and were patient with all my questions. :) We are super happy with the remodel and indeed, we had a "first world" budget so I can't complain and you are right - all those details fade quickly. Thanks everyone - we're really happy with the end product. We just had so much left over from them other it made sense to knock this one out too, rather than waiting a few months! I couldn't live with carpet and gold anymore! Ick. As for the pebbles, they are actually flat, so they feel great under feet. In our master, we used those on the shower floor and it feels just like standing on small tiles. Emser is the only one I've seen that carries these, but I'm sure there are others. Re: Clayton lights - LOVE them. I actually wish we had used them in our master, but oh well! They are really great looking installed - modern but not too much. You'll be very happy with them, I'm sure. Oh, sorry about the toilet! I'm not so good with photography :)

We got the hardware from johnsons hardware, see link below. It is real easy to install. It is like a barn door or loft door. The hardware screws into the wall and then you attach hardware to any door, just make sure it is a little bigger than the opening. That snaps in and there is a little track guide that goes on the floors and there you have it. Here are a few more pics. this is the track system the whole track I had already ordered my hardward when we decided to go with the pocket door. I didn't want to waste my gorgeous hardware so we used it just on the outside. and a closet door piece for the inside I still have to get a latch for the lock, but it is pretty obvious when someone is in there. Very nice job, very clean look. It is fun and reassuring that a mood board can help in the vision of one's plan.

But I have to ask, where is the element that reflects the yellow green floral design on your mood board? I remember this initial post. Did you decide against the addition of the extra color?

Thanks for the kind comments. We're still in the honeymoon phase where everyone is being good about keeping the nice new bathroom uncluttered and using their medicine cabinet for all the teenage "products". How many different Axe scents are there, anyway?

Tina_ma, the paint color came from the box that the RH towel bar came in, of all things. When I saw the box, I thought "that's the color!" and DH went to the paint store with the box and had them match it.

Enduring, the green/yellow element in the mood board is a glicee print by Lynne Taesch that I still plan to put up in the bathroom over the towel bar. I just haven't had a chance to mount it yet, but I think it will go well. I also need to find some type of houseplant that will be happy in a bathroom with no natural light. Any ideas?

Lbrok: thanks! The vanity is the 72 inch Omega Dynasty double vanity, Soho style (slab door), in solid maple, "Autumn" stain.

Regarding plants, what about a philodendron, it seems that I've seen them growing in artificial.

Hi, I am wondering if any DIYers have attempted to install their own frameless shower doors? We are fairly experienced with DIY - replaced all of the windows and doors last spring then gutted the kitchen, tearing out walls and rebuilt. So we are used to taking on big projects ... I noticed, though, that some of the experts on different TV shows bring in a specialist to install the shower doors. Just wondering - could it be that difficult? Will be remodeling 2 bathrooms this summer. In both cases, will have a straight install. Kids shower will get a 28 inch door. Our shower will have a 5 ft opening, so probably just a fixed panel plus the door. Would love to hear your experiences - good or bad - so we can decide whether this is a project we'll tackle on our own or whether we'll bring in the experts. Thanks!
