A Woman's Housekeeping Philosophy

1. I don't do windows because...
I love birds and don't want one to
run into them and hurt themselves.

2. I don't wax floors because...
I am terrified a guest will slip, hurt
themselves, I'll feel terrible and....
they may sue me.

3. I don't mind the dust bunnies because...
they are very good company and I have
named most of them, they agree with
everything I say.

4. I don't disturb cobwebs because...
I want every creature to have a home
of their own and hubby loves spiders.

5. I don't Spring Clean because...
I love all the seasons and don't want
them to get jealous.

6. I don't plant a garden because...
I don't want to get in God's way,
he is an excellent designer.

7. I don't put things away because...
my husband will never be able to find
them again.

8. I don't do gourmet meals when
I entertain because... I don't want my
guests to stress out over what to make
when they invite me over for dinner.

9. I don't iron because... I believe
them when they say "Permanent Press".

10. I don't stress much on anything
    because... "A" Type Personalities die
    young and I want to stick around and
    become a wrinkled up crusty ol lady!

I'm here on the contraty. I like things clean, organized, and nothing out of place (who doesn't) to the point where I don't mind cleaning, as it's a means to that end. My garage was the "gorilla" on my back for many years. I had never been able to park cars in the garage. I made it a dedicated project, it took six months to clean and organize, now I'm "gorilla" free and it feels wonderful. It was a momentous occasion when I parked the car in the garage for the first time. I even got dressed up.

I like to glean the great tips and products from this and the Organized Home forum. I offer tips back but I sometimes think I'm over the top because I don't often get a response and frequently, my comments will put an end to the discussion...I can virtually see posters rolling their eyes.

Ahh, Mustangs. You would have made my mom and MIL so happy. I can also get my car in garage (narrow margin) but the rest is so crammed and stacked its hard to even know whats out there. One whole section is still daughters "stuff". She's been gone at least 3 yrs. Has now moved into a house/garage larger than ours, her garage and house is filled with (dare I say more crap?) and "isn't ready for this yet!" We cram the mower, snow blower, husbands fishing "more crap" gear into about 1/4 of the space. And the rest just about fits my car. But I know that if I ever give the space up it will be hell to ever get it back. So I just keep using it summer and winter. Basement is same story. I envy your clean organized place. Sandy

Mustangs, some of us have lots of gorillas, and their babies, too! I'm a frustrated neatnik. Frustrated because I want to spend my time doing other things, like sitting on my duff crocheting or knitting, or out taking pictures and such. But I love a clean and organized home. I've got to do a major push to get it done. Tomorrow.

I love a clean and organized home too. You save so much time when everything is in the place where you put it and You dont need to look for it...i have got 2 dogs so cleaning is necesery very often.

mustangs,i envy you and i know just what you mean abt people not answering your posts and stopping threads. It happens to me on some other forums. I have'nt decided if it's me being dense or them.

I have trouble getting motivated b/c it all comes back! I swear I looked at a table yest. and thought I couldn't believe it was so dusty b/c I had just dusted it! And the dishwasher! Before it gets through a cycle, there's more dirty dishes in the sink. The same with the laundry. And ironing? I've just able quit doing any of that. I actually hid some of my husband's stuff that wasn't wash and wear. What he doesn't know, he doesn't miss! It's just too endless.

Once I clean and put something away I can never find it again

I'm conflicted.

In my head, I want everything immaculate and love the feeling of just-cleaned anything. When I clean, I'm a little obsessive.

In reality, I've chosen a life with a bunch of long-haired dogs and feel like I can't keep up. Actually, the family areas where we spend most of our time are almost easier to keep a handle on because we have to clean regularly - kitchen, family room, etc.

It's the areas that don't get used as often - dining room, guest rooms, extra bathroom, etc. that build up.

I have a to-do list a mile long in my mind but then get overwhelmed and feel like I'll never catch up.

All or nothing thinking is awful, but when it comes to cleaning, I can't seem to get my act together.

DH and I go in spurts, but I wish we could keep everything more consistent.

Mustangs - I must be your long lost relative! We have the exact same feelings. I'm organized to the point of needing a help group (I DON'T DO junk drawers) and I'm afraid that I've ended quite a few discussions, too. Saturday is my "cleaning day" and I do it ALL day long. But it's so great to curl up in the chair in my bedroom on Saturday night with a cup of coffee, HGTV and the satisfaction of a job well done!

Pugger - Do you call yourself that because you have pugs? I ask because 2 pugs let me and my DH live in their house (as long as we have many treats and pay all the bills).
