DF's Vintage Easter Cards

One of my DF's shared these cards with me for my Easter table. I hope you enjoy seeing these as much as I have. They are all from the early 1900's and have 1 cent stamps on them. Hope you will be able to read the cute sayings on them.

I think they would be neat framed or on a wreath but sure don't want to damage them. I wanted to get some of the fly specks washed off but wasn't sure how easy it would come off. I'll work on them later.

This is my sewing machine decor. Check out the little bunny candle holders I found in DM's stuff. Smiled when I brought out DM's and DGD's gloves.

I really like the way you displayed the old cards in the egg holders. Vintage cards are so neat, I spend a lot of time looking at them on the web in fact. And of course saving a lot to my files. My over-loaded photo files, LOL.
You are lucky to have the real thing tho!

And great finds of your DM's on the candleholders and gloves. Your sewing table looks very sweet.

Those are very sweet cards.

If you look at the 3rd picture from the bottom, it is exactly like my "Not an Ugly Duckling" posting of my retro tin sign, except my sign says Easter Blessings instead of Easter Greetings!!

Your sewing machine vignette is also very cute.

Thanks for that link, jane...she did do a nice job on that wreath ...& interesting that she mod-podged it afterward & added 'glitter!' (that dreaded word in my vocabulary!) LOL! Don't know yet if I'll try to print...gosh, it would take alot! & also I can't believe you 'cut out' all the nips & tucks of the card in that 1st pic! Wow! Karen, opps, we must of been typing at the same time. Sweet picture, made me bust out loud laughing. TJ is #252/2000 so there is alot like her out there. Luvs, DD does like to shop and then watch me smile. I'd like to think she inherited this from me.LOL OA, are you planning on sharing with us how your using the poem? The bunny has pink tulips and green stems painted on 'her'. Creek, my heart is still sad after reading your post about DD tonight. Hang in there and know we are all praying for you and yours. Jane, I don't think I'm much of an Energizer Bunny any more. Seems like I require more rest than I use to. I haven't had time to do any more decorating but will try to share a few more pictures of what I've decorated this weekend. Will miss your wonderful Easter table and decor this year for sure. Candy, it's so amazing how the enablers here have helped us increase our flatware as well as dishes and decor. I tell myself no more until I go shopping again.Darn It's fun to match flatware on our tables tho, don't you think? I will try to get more pictures taken and posted. Can't believe how time flies. Thanks Karen, Punk & Jane! I Googled also & looked quite a bit & couldn't find it....but I think that's it, Jane...that WS one... (what does WS stand for? My brain is fogged & I keep thinking Sonoma or something...anyway, don't have that store around here) Anyway, when I got out for a few hrs with DH last week, I bought these Easter letters with vintage pics at HLobby...& that reminded me of that wreath I thought I might try. 50% so these were $7.50...looked at wreaths already made...$$$$...so thought I might try something. Good Morning! Hmmmm, what did I do for Emily? We had a birthstone ring made for her and hid it in an egg. I bought her a multi-strand bead bracelet from World Market and a pair of earrings and did the same. We also stuffed a few eggs with money, which you all suggested, as well. Teens ALWAYS appreciate cash ;^D Thanks again for your great suggestions. The eggs and small pieces of jewelry were very easy to bring along in my carry-on bag. We hid them on our private patio there, so we didn't have to worry about someone else finding them :~0 She LOVED it . . . and her gifts! Anyhoo, here's a pic that I took out there: As for our time with our son, that was a bit sad for us. He'd put in for a weekend pass, and being at the top of his class, was assured he'd get it. But, his commanding officer went away for the holiday and left a new asst. in charge, who turned out to be a real you-know-what. For no reason, he decided the entire company had to stay on post, despite all the families, like us, who'd flown or driven in to see their soldiers for Easter. He did grudgingly allow DS a day pass to the small town next to the post on Saturday so that we could take him out to lunch and dinner there. So, instead of DS spending a relaxing weekend with us at the resort, we had to drive down to the post ~ 90 minutes each way~ every day but Friday to see him there. As a result, we didn't get to use the pools as much as we'd hoped or explore Tucson. Instead, I'm now (unfortunately) VERY familiar with it's highways! To counteract all that driving and get some exercise, we got up early every morning and walked the grounds, worked out in the exercise rooms or played tennis or golf (DH). But, the good news is that we did get to spend some time with DS most every day, albeit on post. On the bright side, La Paloma had a wonderful Easter Morning brunch that we went to and then we had them make us up a yummy gourmet picnic lunch to take down for a picnic with DS and his good buddy after.

Oh, I love all your DF's cards...they look great on your cute potted eggholders! I have a book w/several diff ones but this postcard I bought at a flea market...thought it was so cool cause it's embossed...I have sitting on my kitchen counter on an easel:

Love vintage cards. I have a nice collection of them purchased when they seemed to be readily available in antique stores for 50 cents to a dollar a piece. I protect them from the wear and tear of handling in the sleeves made for first day covers - which I lucked into accompanying a friend to a stamp show.

The fly specks and discolorations are called "foxing" and can be treated by an experienced paper conservator because it's in and not just on the surface. Avoid even light rubbing with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Post cards are ephemerals and react to heat, light, and humidity over time.

I like how you used them with the eggs on your Easter table.
I love thinking of them and the original memories attached to them.

Great vintage cards! Love the Victorian designs, etc. and your egg card holders are really cute too! Great decorations on your sewing machine too...I used to wear those white gloves on Easter myself when I was young! TFS~

Too bad we don't have cards that are so beautiful today. I'm like Karen, I have a collection of these in my computer! Love to have some real ones.

How neat that joining this forum has you pulling out saved items that had belonged to your DM. Those candle holders are so cute, and I love the baskets on your sewing machine, they are both so cute. Neat way to display the vintage cards, so neat that those have been saved. Very nice. Luvs

Karen, I've never saved any Vintage cards on my computer because I don't have a color copier at home. I ended up trading printers with one from the office. We've quit using color there also. However DD has a color one at home so I could always have her print for me! Thanks

I brought out the gloves last year after seeing Jane's and kept them with my Easter basket. I'm trying to be more organized and with all the ideas here it's helping.

Candy, I thought of your sign when I seen that card too. Forgot to mention it so glad you brought it up.

Jeanne, love your embossed Easter Bunny card. It's great that you put it out to share with your decorations.

Duluthinbloom, thanks for all the info. Hope you will share pictures of some of your cards with us. Sounds like you knew when to pick them up and protect them.

Marlene, I use to always wear gloves to church but guess none of them survived my growing up.LOL However, DSis may have ended up with them as she's always been the antique collector in the family.

Luvs, you are the one who insisted I come here and I'm so thankful you did.(Well most days)LOL Because of you I now cherish all the precious treasures from DM. Thanks again for being the 'Enabler' who turned on the light for me!
