Weight isn't always the decision to buy. The amount of true "down" is what will determine warmth and weight. Plus the cover material. I bought two down comforters 15 years ago and they are still in great condition. Couldn't find them to buy another until recently, but they are called FairyDown from the UK. You can get them online now and still at a very good price. I also bought a sheep wool mattress cover, they are wonderful to sleep on. With this company you will know also where the down came from.

I have been looking and looking online. I wanted something cheap as I've already exhausted my budget. I tried out the ones at Ikea and they were lacking in quality. We went to a local store to just try out different ones and ended up ordering from them. It was more than I wanted to spend, but they are such great quality that I couldn't resist. I'm happy with our choice. We got to choose the finish and fabric and they are really sturdy and comfortable and even LOOK better quality than the cheap ones I was looking at online. We are lucky to have this store that all they sell is chairs and barstools, but I guess what I'm saying is to go out and try some. My husband wanted no back, I wanted a back and no swivel because I was afraid of the back banging into the counter. We ended up with a padded back with a swivel.

Is there a reason lights like that are preferable to adequate staircase lighting? everdebz's mention of aging in place reminded me that my elderly grandmother had difficulty with treads and risers when they were all the same color, because she couldn't see the edge. If the goal is to make it easier to manage stairs when you're older, one thing to consider is a contrasting strip along the edge of each tread. This can be built-in or added after the fact.
