finding clips for DW and stone counter tops

I have a GE Dishwasher that we bought a couple of years ago and had installed with our existing laminate countertops. Now, we're upgrading to a stone countertop, but for the life of me I can't find the little clips that are supposed to be used for intalling with stone.

I called the GE Parts/Accessory line and I can order a replacement for $16.95, but has anyone ever just bought a part like this from a regular appliance store? Or can I get something from HOme Depot?

You don't want to screw the dishwasher into the granite countertops - most dishwashers offer the option of attaching them to the side cabinets. Check your owner's manual to see if this is possible for your dishwasher. There are usually plugs on the inside sides of the DW that you remove to do the attachment. Failing that, you'll want to glue a strip of wood to the underside of your granite counter and then attach the dishwasher to that so that you don't have to drill into the granite which can cause it to crack.

Thanks, Weissman. You're right, and I misspoke about attaching the DW to the stone. I meant the clips that allow you to attach the DW to the side of the cabs. Thanks for clarifying.

I am wondering if I can just make some angle brackets that I pick up at HD work instead of ordering from GE? Has anyone done this before? The idea of the wood glued to the underside of the stone is a possibility too. Have you done this before?

First, take a deep breath. This problem comes up here a few times a month! Step back and look at how the over all color "reads"in your kitchen. The reason why Laurie's looks so good is that it not only blends with the St Cecilla but it also blends with the cream in her cabinets. What color are your cabinets? If your cabinets are white and the counters read more grey, I would try to find a white tile with a grey undertone. Or a very light grey. Can you post your kitchen? It is funny that you mentioned no backsplashes shown with your granite. When I was having difficulty finding a backsplash, I went back to see my inspiration kitchen pictures. (They were white kitchen) Not one had a backsplash! I was so involved in the style and the color of the cabinets, I did not think ahead about the vision of my backsplash. Yes, I was wondering if it would be a problem. We currently only have ceramic tile and there are roman shades over the 2 banks of windows and it just seems to me that the sound level is more elevated than in my daughters place where she has vinyl sheet floor. I wondered if I added granite c-tops if it was going to be even worse. golddust...that is 'too' funny about your parrot. Sounds like he was the inspiration for one of the latest coffee commercials (can't remember the brand, but love the sound effects). So, it is good to hear that it is not an issue. Having had that cleared up I realize that it could all just be me. I have bi-lateral hearing aids and the sound is just probably being amplified.

Drop in sink installation question- thick counter top

I installed a sink in a 3 1/2 inch butcher block countertop just last month. We could find nothing that would hold it in, such as clips. We ended up using a silicon-based adhesive around the edge and putting a piece of plywood on top of it with a 5-gallon bucket of drywall mud on top of that. Let it sit for at least 4-5 days, and a week is better. No problems so far. It was a copper prep sink, and I spent about 2 hours hammering the edges to get them nice and flat first. Mounting the faucet was also challenge. We ended up counterboring from the bottom to get the nut on.

Heatheron40, very nice. I asked a question about doing a tile countertop in our guest cabin recently as I feel like the look would complement the cabin aesthetic. Also I’m dying to learn to tile and thought it would be a fun place to start as it’s not an everyday space and I could take my time. Most of the responses were against. Basically stating the grout would make me crazy. The guy at the said what you’re saying I think, he said that modern grouts are more resistant to staining and such, and also to go with a tinted grout of some sort. I love your use of pattern to give it interest and intention!

The easiest thing is to screw the sides of the flange the door closes into directly to the side of the opening. The door seal is beyond where you will be screwing so no danger of leaks. If you are lucky (as we were with our GE) the opening is just the right size and the dishwasher touches the sides of the opening in the counter. If there is a significant gap you may want to insert a shim on each side to avoid bowing the dishwasher frame.
