Using Clorox Disinfecting Wipes on granite?
Comments (13)If it is the same formula from a year or so, the Clorox wipes actually have NO BLEACH in them at all if you are thinking if the bleach might harm the granite. I needed a bleach in a wipe at that time and I just assumed it did and was quite surprised when it did not. So it is probably safe since it (still?..check the ingredients to be sure) does not contain actual bleach. There was even small print on the label that says it did not contain bleach. Not sure what kind of 'disinfectant' it was or if it would have a reaction to your stone and/or sealer, so testing what you have is probably the best solution....See MoreVanity vs. Pedestal Sink for Half-Bath?
Comments (60)Yes, I wish I had a little alcove space in my half-bath like Bob's to cradle a sink like that. I also wish the arrangement of my room was like all the powder rooms pictured above, walking in FACING the fixtures. Instead, you walk in facing a window, and the sink is to the immediate right, and the toilet is on the same wall to the left of the sink. You lose a lot of the beauty of the fixtures that way. I love looking straight into the room to see the sink right there. As we've seen from all the pics posted here, a sink and faucet are not merely utilitarian fixtures. They can serve as striking sculpture! (Ditto the toilet actually! There are some beautiful ones out there now!). I'll try to make the best of the configuration I have. (If someone will get their caboose over here to help me with my project!)...See MoreSinks: Stainless Steel vs. Americast
Comments (15)I bought a 36" Americast double sink because it had the shape I wanted -- little 'blip' outward on the larger side, so it fits two 12" pans. It's now 14 years old -- no heavy use in two-adult home. I've had one small chip -- now invisible with the white 'paint' you can buy for this. However...the 'finish' is dulling, whereas my Kohler prep sink is smooth as new. I use only Bon Ami on *everything* in the house. (Can with the little chick and the saying, "Hasn't scratched yet.") Never use abrasives like Comet or Ajax. A spray with Clorox Cleanup eliminates any grey marks....See MoreGranite vs Quartz countertop in an Indian Household.
Comments (23)Joseph Corlett - please note that there are some granites than have extremely low absorption rates and therefore will not stain. My granite counters have been in place for 10 years, and look like the day they were installed. I have used spices like turmeric on the counters, spilled lemon juice, wine, tomato sauce, and nothing shows. In fact, I was cleaning silver the other day, and spilled silver polish (an abrasive) on the counter, didn't notice, and it stayed there for several hours. Wiped up, counter showed nothing, because it did not absorb. While there are many stone counters that will show stains, it would be ignorant and misleading to say that all the thousands of granites are that way. As Crl_ said, I would like to see what happens to your favorite solid surface counters when toilet bowl cleaner is left on them. I once left a bit of mustard on my mother's Corian counter; I think she still hasn't forgiven me. If the OP is interested in granite, s/he should go to a stone yard, and ask the people there which granites have low absorption rates, and then bring home samples of those and test them with home spices to see what happens....See Moremissmary - 6b/Central Maryland
