Sub Zero 532 21 yr/old. Coupla hundred bucks? Should I?
Comments (5)Yeah, it's a gamble but nothing ventured nothing gained I guess. If the fridge side gets to temp I think we're willing to take the risk for a couple hundred. The interior is immaculate and I'd like to try it. The space inside would be awesome....See MoreSub Zero Icemaker Floor Model Advice Needed
Comments (3)That is the previous generation made by Scotsman for SZ. The new model is made at an entirely different operation and has storage for the scoop in the door, interior lighting, a built in water filter, and it is much easier to conceal / integrate with surrounding cabinets. That was a fine unit but it would have to be well under a grand for me to even consider it used....See MorePlease help me with SubZero: repair, replace, or change brands?
Comments (2)I'm generally all for the latest and greatest but depending on what area you live in $800 might not even cover the sales tax on a new subzero(in my area it would be at least double that amount for sales tax for most sz's). I know 20 years is getting on in years but one of the reasons one buys a good product like sz is that they are repairable not disposable. I highly doubt the energy savings would be huge. I'm betting you could keep that running for another 10 years without spending even close to what a new one would cost. On the other hand dealing with repairs can be frustrating and time consuming, and of course you could potentially lose food stock with a breakdown, although less likely since you would probably notice there is a problem before food is spoiled and you do have a secondary unit....See MoreReplacement Door for SubZero
Comments (4)Anything can be done. The question would be whether it would be any cheaper than replacing the whole unit. Call your local repair agent and get a quote for parts and labor. It's the only way to know for sure. Is there any time left on the warranty? That may also influence your decision. I doubt you can get a new door yourself and make the fix yourself (though it's worth a call!), and the chances of finding someone demoing the same unit in better condition than yours are slim. I think it's worth any money to hire a moving company to move appliances. Even if you move the rest of the house yourself. They usually rent by the hour, with a minimum of 3-4 hours, and they know what to do (you can ask specifics if you want to know more). I don't know if this was your plan all along, but you didn't specify. Good luck with your move!...See Morefridgeshopper
