Daltile Navelli Carrara Star or AE Catarina Coliseum White tiles?

Id like to use one of these options for our master shower walls in a 10X13 size. We want the look of marble without the cost or maintenance issues. Does one look more like authentic marble than the other? We were only able to see one sample piece of each.

Also, we have well/hard water. I was thinking about using a real carrara marble chair rail around the shower niche, with maybe real carrara shelves. We also have a 4ft wide by 18" deep bench seat in our 4X6 shower and Im wondering if I can use real carrara there as well. Is the hard water going to be a problem? If so, what else could I use for these pieces?

For the shower floor we will probably do a 1X1 arctic white hex from Daltile, as well as the rest of the bathroom floor. Also considering the white Octagon & Dot tiles. Which would look better do you think? We will do 3X6 white subways on the rest of the walls with the real carrara chair rail on top.

Is all of this going to tie together well? Im so confused...

I have the catarina coliseum white tile in the bathroom. the 10x13 on the wall and the 12x12 on the floor. it is a great copy of marble. it is also easy to clean. my bathroom is small. the price is excellent for the quality. it is ceramic.

Good post - this tile is becoming more popular. I know Gitananoel & Gary1227 posted wonderful photos of their AE tile in previous bathroom posts. I have seen both and personally like the AE Catarina tile much more. I posted a little while back about hex tiles for floors and grout. Two great people posted some wonderful pics. One is the Octagon & Dot and the other is Hex. I'm torn between the both of them. They are both lovely. I know the Dot is less expensive.

I used Daltile Navelli Carrera Star tile, which looks like carrera marble, with an actual carrera marble counter. I love how it looks. I would recommend bringing home some samples of Daltile Navelli Carerra Star and American Olean Catarina Coliseum White tile to compare with your samples of Cambria Torquay. Personally I think the look could really work for you.

Your floor looks great! I've been overly obsessing about the floor of my soon to be bathroom, ever since my husband vetoed the marble basketweave I had been planning on for lo these many months. Seeing the faux cararra looking so nice really gives me hope. I'm thinking I want a honed or matte surface if I go for the large scale tile, and found a really decent look-alike by Dal-Tile at Home Depot today. But it is ceramic, not porcelein. Should I be worried? I really have no idea of whether the ceramic would be inferior in a 12x12 tile. BTW, drewem, another poster in the home decorating forum was bemoaning the fact that the Catarina is not available. I guess you've proven that's not the case. Where did you find yours? I hope you'll post on your progress - would love to see more bathrooms of the look-alike kind!

Home Depot has a 12x12 and I think 18x18 honed ceramic that looks pretty good to me. I think on the website the manufacturer is called US Tile, but I found it in the store. I went to the DalTile showroom today and brought home a sample of Navelli Star, which is still available. As people said when comparing the AO Catarina with the Navelli, the Home Depot tile was cooler - sort of more blue - while the Navelli seemed slightly creamier. As far as veining, they are almost identical. I also visited American Olean, and the distribution center in Seattle just sold the last of the Catarina Coliseum about a week ago :(

Ha Stinky-Gardener that is my blog! I was going to come post that same picture even though it's not the best. I wish I would have had more daylight to take some better pictures. Like the pp mentioned the AO tile is a cooler color and the Daltile is a warmer color. I preferred the AO tile because I wanted to use a cool blue color for the walls and because the veining looked more real IMO. See if you can have your tile place order in a full size AO Catarina tile or call around and find a different store with a larger sample. What you pair with the tile may be your deciding factor. That's why I included some quartz and granite samples in my picture.

Here is our Catarina Coliseum white bathroom. We have the 10x13 tiles on the walls and 12x12s on the floors. The floor tiles are a matt finish and have a slighty less authenic look than the wall tiles which are in a gloss finish. We used real carrera white marble chair rails for the trim and edges. We have well water that isn't all that hard but also have a softener. No problems with keeping the tile clean.

We found a great deal on the carrera marble chair rails through Belstone located in Chicago. They have a website and ship nationwide. We paid $7.50 per 12inch piece which was a bargain compared to what we found locally even with paying $150 for shipping.
