We have a Bosch free standing gas range we got a couple of years ago. It's one notch below the top of the line. I think the only difference was that the hottest burner was less hot. I do not know the btu numbers. We are very pleased with it, but note that it takes longer to boil a pot of water for pasta than it used to with our previous electric range. But it is hot enough for everything we want to saute. I suppose if we we very serious into Asian stir frying, we might find it inadequate. We're very pleased with the oven and broiler. The oven can be used either conventional or convection. The convection setting very nicely browns roasts. One word of caution: be very careful about measurements. Our Bosch range is EXACTLY 30 inches wide. That means it does not fit into a 30 inch wide opening. Most "30 inch" ranges are actually 29 15/16 inches wide so they will fit into a 30 inch opening. This problem cause us some hurried activity to find a contractor who would lop off some of our Corian countertop to widen the opening. That cost us over $200. So check and double check your measurements.

We bought the 800 (36" wide). The biggest difference in the 800 compared to both the 300 and 500 is a larger central burner (18,000 btu on the 800 vs 16,000 on the 500 and 14,000 on the 300) and brushed metal knobs (vs black plastic on the 300/500). As far as gas cooktops I think neither brand is superior. The Bosch claims a 400 btu (~125 degrees) simmer which is low enough for even the most delicate French sauces in small amounts. The GE claims 140 degree simmer. You probably want to make the most delicate French sauces in 4-6 person portions or use a heat diffuser. The GE power burner has an extra 4k btu of power. There is not way for the Bosch to make up that extra power.

@Design Girl If you buy a Wolf, get the longest extended warranty that you can get, don’t run the self clean and periodically wipe the bottom with a white paper towel looking for small blue shards. At least if you have issues the sooner you know it the better. The E with the dual fans has more oven modes including a convection bake Mode which for me is the most usable mode because of the slower fan. The M was built to deal with the chipping and has a bottom that can be removed by a Wolf tech for easier repair. the corner fans set up air currents along the side. Look at the thread on M that someone commented on recently.
