Bathroom Vanity Cabinets

Need some help from y'all. I am looking to buy some ready to assemble vanity cabinets for my master bath. I need them to be real wood fronts, plywood inside is OK (MDF is NOT OK). I need two 48" vanities, one knee drawer and two 18-24" storage cabinets for the ends. I'm also not looking to spend and arm and a leg. I don't want cheap, but I don't want to spend several thousand either. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I live in the Atlanta area, but I'm assuming this sort of stuff is better found online.

I'll link a site I saw recently with a lot of online options. I believe learning what the insides are made of will be tough with an online store. Check around your area for custom cabinet makers and get quotes--you may be surprised at the prices and you'll get them to your specifications. I actually found that after I picked my countertop it was great to pick the exact shade of stain for the wood to pick up the right shade of brown in the counter top so it was good for me to order from a kitchen cabinet company. Try a kitchen store to get a semi-custom quote. I just read this on the Kitchen Forum about a cabinet line Aristocratic cabinets:

"We have two shops that carry Aristocratic and we loved their displays. The cabinets are rock solid. We did full plywood with all the bells and whistles and they were still cheaper than any others we looked at. (And even with the walnut, they came in cheaper than the quote from Home Depot for Kraftmaid!)

Maybe you could go to a used furniture store and find vanities that you can rework. Or on Craigslist.
I used the front of my old vanity and cut off a section so I could wall-mount it with 10" clearance from the floor. That is much better for not encouraging mold. I got oak plywood for the sides, stained and varnished to match the front. It looks really nice.

This is a during-build picture. We had an additional cabinet on the open side, where that cabinet has doors with a small amount of storage. It is perfect for storing feminine supplies and extra toilet paper and is reachable when most needed. (If you want more pictures, I can take them--the room now does have a sink, a toilet, a mirror, that sort of thing.)

Nthing Aidan & Handymac that you should practice on cheaper materials. If this is really your first attempt at woodworking, you're almost certain to generate a fair bit of unintentional scrap. You won't always have a clear understanding of what to do next, and to avoid being completely stuck you'll guess. Sometimes those guesses will be wrong. You'll enjoy that learning a lot more if it isn't expensive. Find a mentor who can help you through the basics if at all possible. I also think Handymac's strategy of buying the plywood first and then finding solid to more-or-less match it is a good idea. If I were to buy walnut plywood I'd have to special-order it; I'd have little or no control over the color of the plywood, whereas I can pick and choose from a pile of walnut boards.

I just did the EXACT same project in my guest bath. Painted the vanity white, the walls seafoam green, ripped out an ugly cabinet & purchased the frame for the mirror (haven't put it up yet). This is the only pic I have handy to share, it was time consuming, but easy... i should've done it years ago. My advice is buy the BEST brushes/roller/tape your hardware store sells. Good luck!

They are falling apart....The mirrors on the side have fallen off and crashed in the middle of the night. We've tried re-affix them with mixed luck (one side closest to the wall / hamper has none and is just open wires. The light bars keep failing - this is the biggest problem. We've had electricians out multiple times and they can never seem to fix them - they stop working after a few months. They are ~35 years old and while love them, they seems to be on their last legs. The hinges and insides are just fine.

Just avoid Bertch. They made my remodel miserable with 3 damaged shipments.

I actually had great luck with Bertch for our powder room cabinetry. My mother also had great luck with them for her kitchen cabinets. Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. I'm hoping to use them for our master bath. I hope our good luck continues!

I don't know how long ago your experiences with them were but my contractors said they have gone way downhill. Literally three shipments left with damages. I ask you is that quality control? I wouldn't push your luck. The driver told us it took one customer 4 times to get it right. I totally changed the concept for one bathroom because of them not to mention the delays they cost me. Good luck whatever you do.

Hi Marc, check bathroomplace.net they carry solid wood vanities in different sizes. Bought 2 from them and we are very happy.
