I suspect you're severely over-reacting to the problem with your present dishwasher that you described in the plumbing forum yesterday. What you described there was a small, easily-fixable problem that was causing a leak.

If you want new dishwasher, by all means get one. However, I'm reminded of the guy that thought he needed a new car because his windshield wipers were smearing.

I have a Miele and it's racks work smoothly. I really like the 3rd top rack for silverware. I was a bit leary thinking how putzy to have to load the silverware piece by piece, but if you arrange them in like zones (all knives in a row, all forks in a row), then the unloading is really easy and makes up for the loading.

Can't comment on the Bosch - never had one.

Asolo - I don't think I'm overreacting if I'm going to put in a brand new hardwood or cork floor. The leak we had was huge, and we were all in another part of the house, so we didn't notice it. Water ran underneath the cupboards and out the door of the kitchen into the living room, where it caused damage to our hardwood floor.

We never dreamed we'd have that kind of problem with a 4-year old dishwasher. So for me to investigate a product that will help control the damage of a huge leak is not over-reacting. Wanting racks that glide smoothly when you're paying $1000 for an applicance is reasonable as well.

Understand what you're saying. Water-leaks are always bad news. I had one recently with my water heater and the damage was significant. With pressurized water, even small events can have big consequences.

Said "over-reaction" because, from your description on the plumbing forum, the cause of the leak is likely simple, relatively common, and easily repaired even though the consequence was large and annoying. Although it never should have happened in the first place, the repair should be expected to last indefinitely.

If you want different racks, that's OK too. However, you did say you liked the machine until the leak occurred so that dissatisfaction is new to me. Stuff happens. Repair it or get a new one. Either way, you'll be fine again.

I have a Bosch and the racks move very smoothly. The lower rack has a definite 'track' as you describe it. I wonder whether there was something amiss with the set-up in the showroom? Not once has my lower rack 'jumped'.

The top rack on mine is adjustable, which allows me to set it lower down, and fit stemmed wine glasses in comfortably. I'm very satisfied with my machine.

I agree with Sara the Brit. Occasionally, I'll pull the bottom rack out too far & I'll have to set the back rollers in place, but it's no big deal. I love this DW.

look at the fisher paykel- no racks to pull out or bending over! We,ve had ours for 6months trouble free...

I've got 2 Bosch DWs with Thermador name tags on them. The racks roll smoothly on both -- and I believe that have a water leak shutoff sensor.
