Cultures marble gets its shine from a polyester resin gel coat that's applied over the resin/marble dust "cultured marble" core. Try a product called "Gel Gloss." It's great at rejuvenating a dull gel coat. If the scratches are nasty, you could wet sand with a high grit paper then polish/buff the top it with auto detailing compounds. You need to be very careful going that route though, if you get lazy with the wool wheel you can burn right through the clear coat.

I have seen repair kits sold at the hardware store. I think it's a two-part or epoxy filler. You can sand them down. You sound use a block sander to get a corner. I don't know about getting it to be a butter pecan color. It's probably a shade of white. However, for 50 bucks I wouldn't be bothered by the discoloration. 3' is quite a large chunk so make sure you read the back of the box to see how large of an area it can fill. On the other hand, I see those tops at the salvage store and craigslist all the time. Odds are another one in better condition may show up!

American Marble Industries (Ohio) has done some kitchen jobs. I have only seen pictures. They looked great. However, it was almost the same price as Corian. Corian has some nice 'marble-ish' colors....as does Mystera. I would consider that before doing cultured marble for my kitchen. Mystera looks the most like marble. I don't believe their composite is like Corian or Hi-Macs...might have some polyester in it. That said, I would still prefer Mystera over Cult. Marble in my kitchen. I recently saw a mystera top in a local restaurant and it was beautiful. You can check out the website below to see if it's available in your area. Kompy ps. @acm I don‘t know if these would be considered custom or not. I got the vanities from the same guys. All I picked was the color and the shape of the sink. No one asked about anything else. All the houses I’ve lived in have had over flows on the sinks—even the cheap cultured marble. It never occurred to me to specify and I’m disappointed my builder didn‘t recommend them since these are kids’ bathrooms. @suzyq53 the stoppers are now gone. Had we noticed the lack of over flows prior to this, they would have been gone moths ago. Of course now I have to worry about them dropping things down the drain. I guess I’ll go look for those wire hair traps tomorrow. Hopefully they make them for small vanity sinks. @AFoster The house I built in 2004 had cultured marble with the overflow. I just assumed that was standard. Like you, my husband and I are pretty handy and can fix this ourselves, but it is a PITA and not something you expect in a 6 month old house. It is a good thing we were home when it happened. This is supposed to be our forever home, so we need to find a fix. I’m hoping we can add overflows because we have two bathrooms with double sinks and I don’t want to replace counters and sinks.
