Haan VS Shark VS Hoover hard floor cleaner shootout

I puchased both the Haan and Shark steam mops yesterday cleaned all 900 sq. ft of hardwood in my home with both independantly. Went thru 5 new pads with both. Both left a nasty sticky whitish residue once dry. In short they were cleaned horribly. I took both back and purchased the Hoover Hard Floor Cleaner model 3044. I have re-cleaned 2 of my rooms with it and the water in the waste container is just nasty black and disgusting meaning it's doing it's job and the others did not. If you want clean floors buy the Hoover. The clean water tank is not huge but the job it does is amazing and worth any amount of refilling you may need to do. It has a dry vacuum to use first, then you switch to wash mode and then it has a wet pickup mode to remove the dirty/excess water. It also comes with a bottle of floor and grout cleaner as well as a grout cleaning head. Have not tried the Grout cleaner as of yet.

I had a Hoover hard floor cleaner that stopped working after only two uses. I threw it away. A $175 loss!

Dru- I love my Hoover Floormate! This is my second and only because I purchased the first from a yard sale and had no instructions and ruined it with Pine-Sol (it took me many months to ruin it though)

I have had this one for well over a year and it still works great. I tried the Scooba floor cleaner and talk about a piece of junk!

This issue is clouded by the fact that all vacuums tend to now be throw-aways that compete on price. Once it was clear who was the winner in each category. If you can get a good upright it will have a powerful brush rubbing and vibrating the fibers of a carpet while a good (not great) vacuum sucks up the dirt that is loosened. Canisters had very powerful vacuum power to collect as much dust as ome could loosen with the equipped attachments. Simple as that. Now Consumer Reports is contending with both the inherent properties of various models and the junk that is out there. Wwe have a whole house of carpets to contend with. So my wife has a Kirby that does the job. Not junk and very expensibe. It will never make a Consumer Reports best buy category, but it works like all good vacuums did in the old days. I have a small plug in hand held vac. that Consumer Reports said was very good and I use it for all small jubs around the house and cars. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Since this thread was recently updated, thought I'd post my own updates. In my 2 earlier messages re my Hoover Twin tank, I mentioned that I loved it but the plastic was falling apart. Hoover did replace it in March of 2014, but by December the same problem was occurring. The blue plastic just seems to disintegrate. I've read other complaints about the same thing...it's quite astonishing to be pushing the mop along and having bits and pieces, and then screws just falling out along the floor. I plan to call Hoover tomorrow. Realistically, although it's still within the 2 year warranty, since they've already replaced it once I have no hopes of getting a replacement unit, nor am I sure I even want another one.

I had med-dark floors and what made them look dirty was the sheen! I believe chinchette. They were engineered wood and they were so smooth you could see footprints in sunlight with CLEAN feet right out of the bath not even wet. Drove me nuts. I've been wanting to go with real wood (handscraped with a little tonal variation to hide dings/scratches). I may consider engineered if I can get it in a matte finish, because the engineered held up beautifully in my previous kitchen, and I'm worried about a true hardwood in that area. It will be one or the other, I love wood floors. My friend had a darker almost espresso floor, now those you had to dust all the time to keep looking clean.

WIshiwereintheup, I am still using the bare floor tool, extension hose and other extension tools from my first vacuum -- a Hoover bought about 45 years ago. It came with them -- in those days few upright vacs were designed with a hose that comes off for tool use; the extension had to be plugged into the unit when I wanted to use it. I've jerry rigged various adapters to allow them to be used with later vacuums. They are perfectly good; the bare floor accessory and extra length hose for my current vacuum was ridiculously expensive. I don't remember what happened to that Hoover. I think maybe when my DH used it to vacuum the garage without a bag in it (I clearly remember that!), that ruined it, but not sure. It would have been about 20 years old then and still a good vac.

I'm really wondering why #1 you would purchase two steam mops to compare? And why you would go to so much trouble on your first day of registration to talk about the Hoover whatever floor cleaner?

All I can say is that I have the Shark Steam Mop and 3000 feet of oak hardwood floors. The first time I used it, there was so much residue from other cleaning products that it took five complete floor cleanings before all the stuff came up and I had satiny feeling, perfectly clean floors.

If you only did it once, and only used 5 pads for the whole thing, then I think you probably didn't actually finish cleaning whatever build up was there. I use 3 pads just doing the kitchen...and that is after I'd been using the steam mop for a while.
