placing vanity right next to shower w/frameless glass door
Comments (15)enduring - our shower is 5' X 5' which is wider than one planned here. If they got the right kind of vanity, similar to Ikea's Godmorgon (which we used), it is floating, they could get beneath to clean there. If their countertop guy was able to cut the counter so there was no lip on the side where the glass is installed, seems like counter could be butted against glass and caulked above and below and along front to "seal" middle part. But still a bit risky considering caulk needs to be resealed periodically since it isn't meant to last forever. Would kind of spoil a shower (if it was mine) if I had to look at "junk" along that glass wall though at least it wouldn't be obvious when walking in the door. Also, houses usually aren't exactly level, could be some movement between vanity and glass - might not be a good thing :(...See MoreToilet Paper Holder on Glass Shower Panel
Comments (7)I don't have a glass mounted TP holder, but I can visualize what it would look like to a person in the shower. The adhesive posts stuck to the glass probably look bubbly and maybe white or yellowish from the adhesive pads? I would consider getting a piece of dark tinted film like the kind you use on car windows to make them dark for privacy. I think this stuff just sticks by using some water underneath. Wouldn't that hide the ugly nature of those posts? If it doesn't work, just peel it off....See Moreshower threshold and half wall - tile on top or solid piece?
Comments (21)When you're measuring how wide your threshold or wall cap is, make sure you aren't just measuring the width of the drywalled wall -- you have to add to the width the thickness of tile and the thinset which will adhere the tile on both sides. (Because of the lead time you may need to get your pieces cut, you typically will order the threshold or wall cap once the structure is built but before it's been tiled.) Your tile installer may want to have the finished pieces on-hand before tiling; there can be some wiggle-room adjustments made if everything is available before the tile or caps are installed. In this picture, you can see some of the granite pieces (same granite used for the vanity top) we used in our shower. Our contractor suggested using the solid granite pieces for the top of the curb, the top of the two half walls, and the door jambs (the vertical walls) and it both looks and functions very well. (Sorry I don't have a picture handy which shows the whole thing -- just imagine the curb across the door opening in the same piece of granite.) -- Eric...See MoreCan this be done? (kohler receptor, shower bench, half wall)
Comments (13)So you are now looking at the full length receptors, like I am, then. I can't use the Kohler Salient that so many have used because of the oval raised pattern on it. It is a silly design as it makes placement of a large bench very difficult. So I saw the Kohler Bellwether in real life and it looks promising. It has a slope from left to right or right to left, depending on the side you choose for your drain. I like that the front of the pan is finished, unlike the Katherine or Purist, which have to be tiled in the front. It is a little taller in height at 4.5 inches, though. That is not good for me, but I would consider some creative installation techniques, if approved by the guys at this forum. I prefer to stick with cast iron or something equally heavy duty. A very heavy family member may be using it. I originally was going to use the Swanstone ADA roll-in shower base with a trench drain at the entry, but I just am not sure about that set-up. Which receptor are you looking at now that you are going for a full length one?...See MoreRelated Professionals
