HeY warmfridge, yes I use both convection and microwave to do the tater. The Elux speed oven sets those automatically. You "choose potatoes" from the menu, then it asks, "How many", I always answer 2 even thou it is 1 (usually very large tater). It then chooses the temp, the preheat time and baking time, and tells you to remove food. You push "Start", it preheats(takes about 7 mins), then it beeps, and tells you to place the food in the oven. It then takes 7 mins and 40 secs to do the tater, again beeps when it is done. I'm not sure whether it is using "convection and MW" or just using the "regular baking elements + Mw". The tater always comes out with a nice browned skin, and done perfectly inside. You can see this for yourself if you google "The great potato race". Mojavean and I had a contest, He with his Miele, and I the Elux, results were very similar as well as time (I think I "barely edged him out) but if you watch it, you will see His did not preheat, and He had to set parameters as far as temp,time (Nuking and convection) etc. Except for reheating things and making my coffee, I pretty much use the "Combi mode" for everything, as like many folks here "Grey Meat", is not all that appetizing to me, and using the "combi mode" Elux calls it "Basic" (Under the speed cook options)I've done Turkey thighs,stuffed porkchops etc etc and been happy with the results. The other option under Speed Cook is "Recipes" where the Speed oven had 134 "built in recipes". HTH's Warmfridge!!! Gary

This is very interesting as I was thinking of a single wall oven plus a convection microwave as a second oven. We have a regular microwave as well. I really want the second oven for pies, keeping things warm etc but don't need 2 full size ovens as in a double wall oven. Consumer reports didn't seem to think much of the convection microwaves so that put me off. The microwave ovens would be on opposite sides of the kitchen which has some advantage. Any comments?

I agree with Jpmom that you don't want a MW on top of a double oven - it's just too high. However, although she does not like a MW drawer, many people on this forum adore theirs (note that all MW drawers are made by Sharp, so if you decide to get one, no need to pay up for a different brand name, as it is just a rebadge). Is there no other location in your kitchen? Do you have a pantry where you could keep the MW? There was just a recent thread on this MW placement topic. http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/3833699/placement-of-a-microwave?n=42 I am not a fan of the oven/microwave combos, as I think there are too many compromises in both in order to combine them. Just MHO. If you are doing a major kitchen remodel, you might want to re-think the cooktop in the island, mostly because how are you going to exhaust it. This topic has been covered a zillion times on this forum, but the upshot is if you care about good exhaust, you should have your cooktop on a wall, so that the exhaust capabilities are not hampered by trying to exhaust over an island setup. On the other hand, many people are absolutely fine with poor or no exhaust, and perhaps that is you, so never mind.

I went to see the Miele CSO and oven last Friday, and I really like the CSO especially it being plumbed the the XL is big enough. The interface is great, perfect for anyone that's new to steam ovens. The regular oven is pretty much just fine. However, I still like the Wolf's look more, Miele is more modern clean look while Wolf has more rounded edges and the warmth feeling to it...I know that's so superficial LOL! One thing I am curious is, the sales guys at either Pacific Sales or Pirch all told me they would recommend Wolf, even though Miele is a superior product. I wonder if they get a lot more commission when they sell Wolf?? Also, the sales guy said if I get Miele, it's best to get the Miele installation because Miele will double the warranty makes it 2 years instead of 1. Did you get that too?
