Thanks, sabjimata, akchicago, cilantro, and pinch me. I think I am going to stick with the right-side installation and center my faucet, even though it means the stream will never reach my drain. Anyone who wants to scream "Nooooooo!" at this point, please feel free... (notwithstanding pinch me's great point about marching to my own drummer, which can never be said enough... thank you, pinch me!) akchicago, your points about pull-out/pull-down sprayers vs. side sprayers are all right on the money. I was actually aware of the disadvantages of side sprayers -- thanks to this site -- and bought one anyway. Why? Because when the end of the faucet's nozzle is a spray head, and its spout is harboring a spray hose, the whole thing becomes quite beefy and contemporary-looking, and my husband didn't think it would look right in our 125-year-old kitchen. So form won over function this round, and I am okay with that... though I'm sure to have the occasional pull-out envy when my thumb gets sore from pushing down on that little button... Still trying to decide if it's okay to cheat the faucet an inch or two left of center (to align with center of window pair), now that I will have the drain on the right. I mean, if the stream's not going to hit the drain anyway, does it matter where it hits? Or is there a reason to keep it as close to the drain as possible, even if it's no cigar? Thoughts?

I've got a 36" single bowl with a right rear drain. The sink is 7" deep and I have a high arc pulldown faucet (Waterstone 5500 PLP). My faucet is set up dead center so the water doesn't hit anywhere near the drain. I don't have any issues with splashing. I wouldn't want to set my faucet further back from the sink just to line it up with the drain. I think I'd get really tired of reaching for it plus I think it would look strange.

i had it centered because i didn't know! d'oh!!! but we moved and are going to do another kitchen remodel and my custom 60" soapstone sink will have 3 drains, set to the back. it doesn't really make a big difference for the sink but as far as using the space underneath in the cabinet...big difference. our old porcher apron front had it off centered and i could fit a lot of stuff underneath in the cab. I just looked up the Precis. You can easily install it with the HUSH. The draw-tight will meet in the center, no problem. My method is better than the manufacturer's: Push a wire through a clip and twist it. With the sink lying face down and compensating for the cabinet width, take a guess at how long the wire will be short of half way across the sink by 6" or so. Bend the wire back and install the other clip at the same distance as the other. Screw the wire-twisted clips to the cabinet sides; you'll have a loop on each side. Drill a 1" hole in a 2x4 that sits above the drain when the 2x4 spans the opening. Pass a pipe clamp through the 2x4 and through the sink drain opening. Clamp the sink in place. Check the wires for distance. If you're too long or too short despite the adjustments on the HUSH, pull the sink and shorten/lengthen the wires. Re-clamp the sink and tighten the HUSH. If it all looks good, loosen the HUSH and clamp, apply silicone around the sink flange, tighten the clamp and HUSH, check your reveals, pull the clamp and you're done.
