new use for plates...wall-flowers

I think this idea is wonderful, and how she put the plates together is just wonderful. She got the plates from GW, and then the centers are tealight holders she found at another store for 99 cents each. Turned them into "wall flowers". What a pretty idea for plate lovers at little expense and some glue. (GE Silicone II).

Karen, I hadn't seen her post yet, of course I have seen the one Kirk did of the dish flowers for the garden. I'd just like to have those cute little flower plates and that white one with the cutouts! So cute. The nice thing is that the GE Silicone II does not ruin the dishes, you can just take a knife and cut it to break the seal then pull them apart and pull the glue off. Nice to know in case you discover that you have used a really expensive collectible plate! LOL

If you were to type in artificial flowers in the GJ search bar, you would most likely find several postings where we've all had this same discussion. Personally, for me, I use artificial flowers on my front porch for a variety of reasons...I mix them with the real ones to add more colors since annuals tend to like full sun and my porch is shady. I also use them because my four cats and two very large possums rule my front porch, so the fake ones can take more of a beating than the real ones and because I can move them and bend them at will. They add a pop of color and since I have so many real gardens to tend, it allows me to spend more time there and still make sure my front porch looks inviting. Your porch looks great! And with a new little one to take care of, it's an even better idea. Love your color choices and all of your pots, etc. And....we've all made comments of other people's stuff and later had to eat those words, so don't feel too bad about that! Great job and very creative too!

Dan and Paula, I will continue to keep you in my prayers and meditations. I know that you don't hold faith in prayer, but positive energy is coming your way in waves. I know it is a very difficult time, and one that you are not in the mood to speak of much. I know what you two are going through. Shortly after the birth of my next to youngest son, my stepmother was diagnosed. Hers had already spread too far before being diagnosed. When my youngest son was a year old, my favorite uncle passed after a 15 year remission. Even my stepmother had several years to enjoy life after her diagnosis, even with it having spread so far there wasn't much that could be done to treat it. If you can have faith in nothing else, have faith in the fact that you are a strong individual who has much left to share with the world. Have faith in the woman at your side who loves you, and your family who does as well. Have faith in the doctors who found this quickly. I had not left off of my prayers and meditations for both of you. In addition to healing and strength (light blue and red), I will also be lighting a pure white beeswax candle, one of the few left to me by my mentor, which holds her blessings and meditations for purity, faith and energy. I hope you feel well enough to join us and just hang out and talk. About anything. Gardening is a way of cleansing the soul and mind. And your friends here love you and hold faith for you that this will be well. Kathy

Hi apple pie! Good question I should have thought of that lol. I like the kind of mid century feel to it. I don’t love the image in the center- I could do without the “settlers in bonnets” vibe, although if I need to match it on the other side that’s fine. Moreso I just like the pink and silver border. I tend to prefer images of people rather than fruit of flowers or anything like that. Also anything weird I tend to love. Hi Prosperity, Garden Junk is another forum here on Garden Web. They take all kinds of things and make "pretties" to put in the yard among their flowers. Karen and I have both made a few of the projects found on there. You can find fairy houses, bowling balls turned into garden spheres, chairs made into planters, satelite dishes turned into gazebos, you get the idea. When I first started on there, it took me about two weeks to read all the old posts to see all their "creations". Here's a link in case you want to take a look. Have fun. Luvs

Aaaaaaaaaah, ok, "garden junk" does not mean something not good...

I'm happy to learn it because I saw so many beautiful things in that part of the forum that I didn't understand... In fact, here "junk" (bric-Ã -brac or brol) has a bad side: old things that nobody wants, muddle, jumble...

I'm glad the sealant doesn't ruin the plates, too. I always enjoy it when people think of that. Sometimes I worry with craft projects just what people are doing to antiques. :)

I think I hear the antiques weeping a little. (grin!)

Jenn, that's how I always feel when I see some of the gorgeous things people break up for mosaics--especially the rose plates! It's okay if they are already chipped or broken, but some people buy items just to break them! Oh No!!!!!! Luvs

Prosp, junk usually means the same thing here. But a lot of folks are very creating at using or re-purposing junk into other things. I love the Garden Junk forum for all the ideas and fun things, and very nice folks there too. One of my favorite "junk" things is folks have found old headboard and footboards for a twin/single bed and turned them into gorgeous BENCHES!! I keep hoping to find a set myself and do that. Here's some other gals made.

Love those benches Karen. I have a friend who has made a couple of them.

Prosperity, here are a few pics of things I've made using old bowling balls, light globes, and dishes and vases. It really is allot of fun, and adds a bit of color and sparkle in the yard. Also, it is a good way to recycle things that might otherwise in up in a landfill.

It's terrific ! I love these ideas!

Will ask a friend of mine to come home with a camera as, ten years ago, I realized support for loudspeakers with two pieces of rusted metal. But as the decorations are golden, my "camera" is not suitable (you will see nothing) :)

BTW, Luvs, thanks to you I know what to do with little glass pearls that I have - they're blue and don't fit my house decor any more... Will use them in the garden: my son gave me some rocks and they are so ugly that I didn't know what to do with them.
