LG, what a great spring breakfast table. I'm so happy you showed us your lusterware that belonged to your DGM. That is awesome you still have it and it looks new.

I really like the blue coffe pot, platter and c & s. Great find on your placemats and your plates go well with them. I like how you used the red placemat under your new ones and I wouldn't of noticed the napking was not cloth if you hadn't mentioned it.

It's such a cozy and cheerful setting. I know I'd love to be sitting there enjoying a nice cup of coffe from that pretty blue Coffee Pot.
It's nice you use your DGM's lusterware set..even if it's just for show...better than having it tucked away, never to be seen at all.

LG, that's the added bonus of doing tablescapes--it actually gives the opportunity to pull things out of the cabinet and showcase them so they can be enjoyed even more!

Tell me more about how you repainted your roosters please? I have one that I picked up for $1.00 but really don't like the face on it--maybe there's a way I can make it better???? I'll have to take a pic of it and show you what I mean.

I agree totally with what the others have said. This is a happy way to 'wake up' and have breakfast, love all the cheerful colors. Your Rooster and Hen are wonderful, I really like the colors you painted them. As well as the soothing blue color on your coffee set! Its lovely.

Punk, the blue coffee pot, platter, and cups are part of my dinner set altho I like to use pieces of it with other dishes. Always fun to mix it up which I'm learning from so many of you.

Jeanne, the layering thing always makes me smile because my DM did that decades ago and as kids we thot it was funny. We just thot it was more work for her to wash and iron but she loved to do it. The pottery plates are the only ones I have in that style from that potter altho I wish I had bot more at wholesale when I had the chance. They are from her rooster collection and there were lots of cute pieces. I did have a small spoon rest that had the rooster on it but broke it. :-(

Slinkey and Luvs, when I do vignettes or tablescapes I always 'shop my house' for vintage things to use that have meaning to me. I like to see these things so most are out in full view all the time altho often behind glass or up on my plate rails. It's fun to use these things and plan the colors around them.

Luvs, I just painted the roosters with a primer as they had a shiny painted finish. Then I used white paint, then a brownish paint and rubbed that off leaving it in the feather crevasses. I use whatever latex house paints are around altho likely used craft paint for the brown. I had bot these wholesale for my store and the ones that were white sold quickly but the colored ones didn't so I thot they'd sell if I changed the look but I liked them so much they never went back to the store! Later I used a bit of copper to highlight altho I don't think that shows in the pic and I wish I hadn't done it. It was during my 'copper period' when everything that didn't move around here was embellished with copper! LOL I do love copper but too much is still too much!

Karen, that old tablecloth square has so many colors in it that it could go several color directions. So fun to use things like that.

LG, thanks for posting how you did the Rooster re-do. Sounds easy enough I could do it. LOL.
Recently while browsing thru some blogs and looking at pictures, a gal had a gorgeous pair of white "porcelain" Roosters on her table. Turns out they were actually a pair of those bright painted, cheapy kind. She just primed them, and did gloss white (or white with gloss sealer, I forgot). What a stunning difference. Not only were they beautiful, they looked so expensive.

The whole table is so darned cute that I don't know where to start.Ok, I'll start with my favorite, DGM's birdies, they are darling. Everything works so well together. I love all the muted primary colors, it looks very 50's. This setting reminds me a have a blue luster ware teaset that hasn't see the light of day in many years and also a rooster set my DM best friend painted for her, hmmm wonder where they are hiding.

Karen, when I painted these I was not on the net much and hadn't gotten into painting everything white altho I know I'd love it now. Maybe I'll add these to the list of things to paint white altho I do already have a lot of white things. DH is too busy with outdoor projects to paint for me right now but I bot a few things Saturday that need painting so I'll have to pick up the paintbrush myself soon. I know DH has a white shiny spray paint he's used on some things for me but I don't do spray paint. It would be a mess! Love that saying, altho there are some of us that are still interested in the things Grandma had in her house!

Syble, I hope you use your vintage things and roosters in a tablescape and show us! One of the things I enjoy about this forum is that I'm now looking at my things differently. No longer only 'how can I use that in a vignette or which shelf or cupboard to put it in' but also 'how can I use it in a tablescape'. My DGM lived on a farm and I remember her house from when I was 3 years old altho she had passed and other relatives lived there. It's one of my first real memories. That house would have been perfect for a shabby chic story and I've pictured that cream and sugar on her table. She wouldn't have used it for the hired hands but probably when the minister came calling!

Lynn, I was reluctant to use those red placemats at first as they are really cheapy plastic Ikea things that I bot for the RV! But I thot some extra color was necessary and am now thinking about buying some in other colors. They have a lovely lime green I'm thinking would be interesting on a table. I'll be looking with new eyes at Ikea on our next visit there as I'm sure they have lots of things that will work for my t'scapes that I never considered before.

That grandma saying cracked me up...tho I dearly love anything to do with anyone's grandmother. I just wish I knew what great stuff my own had way back when! I got so little when both died unfortunately, thanks to being across the country and relatives there just dumping stuff.

Karen, I only have a few things from my own DGM as they were not wealthy and even fewer from my DM as she didn't value old things and didn't over-decorate. I love to collect things that belonged to other people's DGM's tho that they don't value and sell in YS and thrifts.
